Identifying that agriculture is still the main front, Nghe An Agricultural Materials Joint Stock Corporation quickly seized the opportunity and focused on investing in the field of seed production - a field that the Party and the State are encouraging businesses to develop. The unit has invested in a series of technical facilities and equipment to serve the research and production of seeds: Research and testing farm and selection of plant varieties, cold storage for seeds, seed dryers and processors, recruiting and selecting a team of good technical staff and experts to research and select new plant varieties... with the goal of taking shortcuts to meet practical needs.

To have a rice or corn variety recognized by the Science and Technology Council - Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development as a national variety is not easy and it takes at least 2.5 - 3 years and is not certain to be successful. However, after more than 2 years of participating in this market, since 2005, Nghe An Agricultural Materials Joint Stock Corporation has continuously launched new rice varieties such as Q.uu 1, Q.uu 6, VT-NA 1 and most recently VT - NA2, followed by VT-NA 9, VT - NA6 and N612 glutinous rice variety.

One of the most impressive rice varieties is the VT-NA2 rice variety, which farmers in all regions of the country often call NA2 (Nghe An 2). This rice variety was created by the Corporation's science and technology staff from a rice variety originating from abroad.

After 3 years of continuous research and selection, a number of individuals have been selected that have higher productivity than the original variety, have good quality rice, have a short growing period (TGST), and can be planted in both crops in a year on many different types of soil. Thanks to these outstanding advantages, this rice variety has been specially recognized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development as a national rice variety and has expanded its production scope nationwide.

Currently, NA2 rice variety has been present in many fields in many provinces from the South Central to the Central Highlands, the Central provinces and the Red River Delta. Everywhere, this rice variety gives high yields from 65 - 80 quintals/ha/crop, fragrant sticky rice, so it is very popular with both rice producers and consumers.

Especially in the 2017 spring rice crop, while in Ha Tinh there were many localities that had "a single crop failure" because of leaf blast and neck blast diseases that almost completely destroyed some rice varieties such as KD18, P6, Thien Uu 8, Xi 21, Xi 23... the most severely affected was Thien Uu 8, while the NA2 rice variety of the Corporation was not affected by the disease and still yielded 75 quintals/ha.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Ha - Head of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, the whole province has planted 58,785 hectares of rice, of which approximately 11,000 hectares have been severely damaged by rice blast disease. Therefore, on May 15, 2017, the People's Committee of Ha Tinh province sent a document requesting the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to support in overcoming the damage. In Cam Binh commune, NA2 rice planted by Nghe An Agricultural Materials Joint Stock Company was not affected by the disease, and the rice still yielded 65 - 70 quintals/ha.

In Nghe An this spring rice crop, all localities are excited when the NA2 rice crop is good, and all the harvest is consumed. Mr. Le Van Tuong, an agricultural officer of Hung Tien commune (Nam Dan) said: This spring rice crop, Hung Tien commune has a good crop, especially the pure NA2 rice variety, which has high yield and is very resistant to pests and diseases, so it is very popular with farmers.

Success from NA6, NA9 rice varieties

In the 2017 spring rice crop, Nghe An Agricultural Materials Corporation continued the great success of 3 new rice varieties demonstrated on a scale of thousands of hectares both inside and outside the province, which are pure rice varieties NA6, NA9 and glutinous rice variety N612. Each rice variety has its own outstanding advantages, NA6 rice variety is a rice variety that can be said to be a "super" yielding rice variety (average of 80 - 82 quintals/ha in this year's spring crop), short growth period (125 - 128 days in the spring crop and 98 - 103 days in the summer-autumn crop). The rice variety produces delicious, sticky rice that is very suitable for the taste of today's fastidious consumers.

In recent days, dozens of delegations with more than 1,000 people from provinces such as Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Vinh Phuc, Hai Duong, Thai Binh, Hung Yen, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Thua Thien Hue... and districts of Nghe An province have come to Dien Dong (Dien Chau), Tan Thanh (Yen Thanh), Nghi Van (Nghi Loc) communes... to plant NA6 rice varieties on a scale of 50 - 120 hectares to visit, learn and ask to buy varieties for production.

In Nghi Van commune, in the spring crop of 2017, over 120 hectares of NA6 rice variety were planted, with an average yield of over 80 quintals/ha. Mr. Le Thanh Van - head of Tay Van hamlet, Nghi Van commune said: NA6 rice variety in our hamlet has been planted continuously for 3 consecutive crops, each crop yielded from 78 - 81 quintals/ha for the spring crop, 70 - 78 quintals/ha for the summer-autumn crop and this spring crop planted over 100 hectares, with a yield of over 80 quintals/ha. The rice is delicious, the selling price is much higher than other rice varieties from 1,500 - 2,000 VND/kg of paddy, because this rice variety has delicious rice, with a rice yield of over 70%, so it is more popular than other rice varieties.

In addition to the NA6 rice variety, this spring crop of 2017 also has the short-term fragrant rice variety NA9, the short-term fragrant sticky rice variety N612, which are not only favored by Nghe An farmers but also praised by farmers in many provinces from Binh Dinh, the Central Highlands to the Central provinces and the Red River Delta for their high productivity.

It can be said that in the last 2-3 years, especially in the spring crop of 2017, with the results of research and the introduction of many new high-yield, good-quality rice varieties, Nghe An Agricultural Materials Corporation has had a really good harvest of rice varieties, causing a big stir both inside and outside the province.

Particularly, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, from the Deputy Minister to the Departments, Divisions, and Institutes, have repeatedly visited Nghe An to personally examine the above rice varieties and requested the Corporation to make a scientific report so that the Ministry's Science and Technology Council can "specially" recognize the two rice varieties NA6 and sticky rice variety N612 for large-scale production nationwide.

Having enough good quality seeds, serving farmers at affordable prices is the constant and continuous goal of Nghe An Agricultural Materials Corporation today and in the following years.
