High-level welcome images with strong Maori characteristics
The welcoming images were very special, imbued with Maori culture, when host New Zealand held a ceremony to welcome Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his wife along with the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation on March 13.
According to custom, when two Maori tribes met, the host greeted each other with great enthusiasm, using words and gestures that showed authority. Then they placed a knife on the ground. If the guest was friendly, he would pick up the knife while looking directly at the host; if not, it showed badwill and would not be welcomed.
