The Nghe Tinh Soviet revolutionary movement (1930 - 1931) took place nearly 95 years ago but is still deeply imprinted in the hearts of Nghe An people in particular and Vietnamese people in general. In Nghe An today, there are many monuments marking the barbaric crimes of French colonialism and the indomitable spirit of revolutionary soldiers and the masses.

MovementNghe Tinh Sovietis considered the first rehearsal of the revolutionary masses under the leadership of the Party to gradually move towards the success of the August Revolution (1945). The climax took place nationwide, reaching its peak in Nghe - Tinh, because the level of struggle was extremely fierce and the enemy also revealed all their savagery and brutality.

The relics and monuments scattered across Nghe An today always remind generations of Vietnamese people of the years of groaning under the shackles of slavery and the resilient fighting spirit of their fathers' generation.

Standing on the banks of the Lam River, at the “headland” of Vinh City, the Soviet Workers and Peasants Monument stands majestically, towering over the flow of time. This is one of the “red addresses” for city residents, especially school-age children, to visit and learn about the tradition of revolutionary struggle.

More than 71 years ago, on May 1, 1930, more than 1,200 workers and farmers marched to Truong Thi Factory to demand wage increases, reduced working hours, land redistribution, and reduction of high taxes. Faced with the fighting spirit of the revolutionary masses, the colonial government was truly confused and wavering. The red hammer and sickle flag was planted on top of the lamppost at Ben Thuy Intersection.

To suppress the fighting spirit, the French colonialists opened fire, killing 7 people, injuring 18 others and arresting many others. Ben Thuy intersection is considered the starting point of the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement, and also the place where the French colonialists revealed their savage and brutal nature.

If the Soviet Workers and Peasants Monument marks the beginning, the Nghe Tinh Soviet Square in Hung town is the place that witnessed the heroic fighting spirit of the people.Hung Nguyen districtand the surrounding areas as well as the fierce repression of the enemy. Here, on the morning of September 12, 1930, 8,000 farmers from the communes of Phu Long, Thong Lang (Hung Nguyen) and Nam Kim (Nam Dan) under the leadership of the Party with rudimentary weapons, raised high the red flag of hammer and sickle and marched to the government office.

When the protest group had just arrived at Thai Lao, the French colonialists sent planes to bomb the crowd, killing and injuring many people. In the afternoon, when people were collecting and burying the dead, the French colonialists sent planes to bomb again. The brutal repression and terror left 217 people dead, 125 injured and many arrested...

Over the years, Nghe Tinh Soviet Square and the martyrs' graves have become a place of visit for people inside and outside the province, and a place of study and extracurricular activities for students from schools in the area.

Regarding the heroic and indomitable fighting spirit in the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement in Nghe An homeland, we can also mention the Monument to honor and the graves of 28 martyrs in the Nghe - Tinh Soviet movement in Ngoc Tan hamlet, Dien Ngoc commune (Dien Chau).

At this location, on November 7, 1930, under the leadership of Dien Chau District Committee, thousands of people from many places in the district raised high the red flag with hammer and sickle and marched to the district headquarters, shouting slogans: "Support the Soviet Union!", "Down with French imperialism and feudal Southern Dynasty...!". The French colonialists fired on the demonstrators, killing 28 people and injuring hundreds.

Located more than 20 km from Dien Ngoc commune is Trang Ke relic in My Thanh commune (Yen Thanh). Here, from November 7, 1930 to September 1931, French colonialists executed 72 Soviet soldiers, who were children of Nam Dan, Do Luong and Yen Thanh.

My Thanh commune alone has 20 sons who have fallen on their homeland. For many years, Trang Ke relic and the martyrs' graves have always been cared for with incense and have become heroic evidence, demonstrating the indomitability in the war.revolutionary struggle. Trang Ke is one of the "red addresses" to educate revolutionary traditions for generations.

The whole province has hundreds of relics associated with the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement. This system of relics has been invested in restoration and upgrading, of which more than 40 relics have been ranked. The relics of the Soviet Workers and Farmers Monument (Vinh City), Nghe Tinh Soviet Square (Hung Nguyen), the Monument to honor and the graves of 28 martyrs in the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement (Dien Chau) and Trang Ke relic (Yen Thanh) are places that deeply mark the heroic fighting spirit of the people of Nghe An.
