(Baonghean.vn)- British politics continues to have new developments. A few hours ago, Mr. Nigel Farage, leader of the UK Independence Party (UKIP), and also the leading politician of the Brexit trend, announced his resignation from the leadership position of this Party.

Speaking to reporters at Westminster on July 4, Mr. Farage said, “In the referendum, I wanted Britain to take back its sovereignty. Now I want to go back to my normal life.”

This is the third time Mr Farage has announced his resignation from the leadership of the UKIP party, but in his latest resignation he has ruled out the possibility of returning to politics in the future.

In his statement, the UKIP leader said: “I have decided to resign. The victory for the Brexit side in the referendum means my political ambition has been achieved. I fought for this because I want us to be a home state, not because I want to pursue a long-term political career.”

According to Mr Farage, UKIP is in a good position and he will always support it to gain more support from the people. The role of this party in the future is to prevent “weakness or concessions from the British government” when entering into negotiations related to Brexit.

Mr Farage also expressed hope that whoever succeeds David Cameron will be tough in negotiations with the EU, which remains dependent on Britain for trade. “We need a Prime Minister who recognises that we hold the cards,” Mr Farage said.

Despite withdrawing from British politics, the former leader of the UKIP party announced that he and other members of the party will continue to serve as members of the European Parliament until Britain officially leaves the EU, which could happen within the next two years.

In the referendum on June 23, former UKIP leader Nigel Farage, who led the campaigns in support of Britain leaving the EU, was the only one to speak publicly about the victory of the Brexit supporters, while former London Mayor Boris Johnson did not appear before the press to comment on the victory of this side./.
