(Baonghean.vn) - The day her husband went to prison, Tim raised her children alone. Not long after, this woman followed her husband into drug trafficking. Only when she was sentenced to prison did this errant mother worry about the future of her children, who were already “orphaned” by their father, and now lacked the care of their mother…

Husband in jail, wife continues to traffic drugs

One day in late July, Ngan Thi Tim (38 years old), residing in Luong Minh commune, Tuong Duong district, took a bus to the provincial court with a few relatives, including her daughter who is in high school. Today, Tim came to court to attend the trial of a drug trafficking case in which she was the defendant. Previously, because she was raising a young child, Tim was released on bail.

Wearing a light-colored T-shirt and not forgetting to apply some lipstick, the light makeup could not help Tim hide the dark spots on her skin. For many years, Tim had been taking care of her children and working alone to support her husband in prison.

Tim said her husband, who is 5 years older than her, is currently serving a prison sentence in Quang Binh province. Three years ago, her husband was sentenced to 9 years in prison for illegal drug trafficking and illegal possession of military weapons.

During the 3 years her husband was in prison, Tim and her children often took the bus to visit him. From those difficult trips, this woman clearly understood the life of "prison food, prison clothes" that her husband was paying for violating the law. As a wife and mother, Tim should have followed her husband's example to stay away from drugs, to take care of her children who had already lacked their father's love. But then, that woman fell, following in her husband's footsteps, participating in drug trafficking. Specifically, on the afternoon of February 22, 2023, Tim walked from her house to the hill area of Dua village, Luong Minh commune, Tuong Duong district to buy 2 packages of pink drugs and 1 tael of heroin from a Mong man (unknown background and address) for 4 million VND.

To avoid being detected by the authorities, Tim chose the foot of the bed as a place to hide the drugs, with the intention of selling them gradually. However, before the "goods" could be exported, the following evening, the police raided the house to search and seized many packages of drugs with a total weight of nearly 40 grams. Faced with undeniable evidence, Ngan Thi Tim admitted to her crime.

Only when the hand is dirty do I think of my children.

In the witness stand, the female defendant gave many reasons to justify her wrongdoings. Defendant Tim explained that her family was poor, her husband was in prison, and she was raising her children alone, so the economic difficulties led to her crime.

Ngan Thi Tim gave birth to four children, three with her husband who is in prison and one with another man. Tim did not hesitate to talk about her love affair with a man four years younger than her while her husband was serving his sentence. This woman said that because she wanted to find someone new to rely on while her husband was in prison, she decided to live together and have children.

At the time of the crime, the child was only 5 months old. Today, the man did not come to court but stayed home to look after the child for Tim. The female defendant honestly shared that her husband in prison knew about her affair. Even though she had a new life, Tim said she still took the time to visit her husband in prison.

However, when facing the legal verdict, Tim cannot help but worry about the future of her four children. This woman said that her eldest child is now working for hire. Her second daughter is a very good student and is currently studying at a local high school. “She gets certificates of merit every year. Before her father went to prison, the teachers encouraged her to study hard. Now that I am also in trouble with the law, I don’t know if she will continue to go to school. I am very worried about my child in elementary school and the newborn baby,” Tim expressed her concern about her children’s future.

It seems that all of Tim's arguments and justifications are now too late. For the crime of illegal drug trafficking, the People's Court sentenced the defendant Ngan Thi Tim to 15 years in prison.

Both husband and wife are in prison, making the future of innocent children even more uncertain. If only both husband and wife had thought about their children, the family tragedy would not have been so great, but it was too late!
