Anh Son farmers earn 80 million VND/ha from growing sweet potatoes
(Baonghean.vn) - With its soft, sweet, and nutritious tubers, Con Ke sweet potatoes in Phuc Son commune (Anh Son) sell for a good price, becoming a major source of income for many farmers.
These days, in the fields of Con Ke area, people are busy harvesting sweet potatoes on rice fields and land. Mrs. Pham Thi Thanh's family in village 2 has planted 2 sao of rice fields this year. Mrs. Thanh said: Growing sweet potatoes for tubers is very healthy, less labor-intensive and less costly than growing corn or rice; mainly using decomposed manure, no need to use pesticides.
The special potato variety here is self-cultivated by the people with white stem, red skin, white flesh, very soft and sweet. After only 4 months of planting, 1 sao of sweet potato yields 6-7 quintals/sao, with the current price of 8,000 - 10,000 VND/kg, giving her family an income of 4-5 million VND/sao.

In recent years, by diversifying the crop structure, farmers in Phuc Son commune have converted ineffective rice and corn areas to grow sweet potatoes, which has brought about much better results than other crops, contributing to increasing income and improving the lives of farmers.
Mr. Nguyen The Phuong - Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee said: In this year's sweet potato crop alone, the whole Phuc Son commune has 8 hectares concentrated in the Con Ke area in hamlets 2, 3 and 4. Large households grow 5 sao, small households grow 1-2 sao. On average, households earn about 80 million VND per hectare.
