Dien Chau farmers sow 2,700 hectares of spring peanuts

(Baonghean.vn) - To avoid drought and leaf burn at the end of the season, currently in some coastal sandy areas and highland areas, Dien Chau farmers have started planting spring peanuts in 2017.

Accordingly, nearly 1,000 hectares of spring peanuts, accounting for more than 30% of the area in the communes of Dien Hung, Dien Hoang, Dien Hai, Dien Thanh... are being planted. Because this is an area prone to drought at the end of the season, people often plant early to ensure soil moisture, not letting peanuts lack water and dry out, affecting productivity.

To complete the 2,700-hectare peanut area, Dien Chau farmers will need about 700 tons of peanut seeds. Thanks to growing winter peanuts, farmers can both take the initiative in the source of seeds and ensure quality because winter peanuts have a high germination rate. All stages of preparation from land preparation, field treatment, fertilization, and seed soaking are carried out by farmers according to technical procedures.

All peanut areas are covered with plastic to prevent cold and are structured with traditional peanut varieties. This year, Dien Chau built a pilot model of 20 hectares of purebred lotus-laced peanuts and chrysanthemum peanuts with product consumption and brand building in Dien Loc and Dien Thinh.

According to plan, all 2,700 hectares of spring peanuts in Dien Chau will be planted before Lunar New Year 2017.
