Farmers cry because sesame crops that are about to be harvested fall to the ground after the storm
(Baonghean.vn) – After storm No. 2, the entire sesame area in Dien Chau (Nghe An) was destroyed; many households lost everything and had to collect each plant to salvage seeds for the next season.
Along the fertile land of Dien Thanh, Dien Thinh, Dien Trung communes, these days it is not difficult to see many people cutting down sesame plants that were knocked down by the storm to make room for new crops. This time of year is the bustling sesame harvest season, but now all you see are the gloomy faces of people "picking sesame".

Ms. Le Thi Can in Hamlet 6, Dien Trung Commune sighed: "This year, I thought we would have a good sesame crop, but I lost everything. If the weather was favorable, 1 sao of sesame could yield 50 - 70 kg. But storm No. 2 destroyed the entire area, so now my family's 2 sao of sesame can only yield about 10 kg."
In the same situation as Mrs. Can is Mr. Pham Dinh Tu's family in Hamlet 6, his family's more than 3 acres of sesame could not be saved. He said that after the storm, everyone went to the fields to quickly drain the water and prevent flooding for the sesame, but due to the strong wind, more than 90% of the sesame fell down, the rest were tilted, and for the sesame trees, when they broke, they were considered a total loss.

One of the most severely damaged localities is Dien Thinh commune - a fertile land of Dien Chau district. Mr. Pham Ba Ai - Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee said: The whole commune has 350 hectares of summer-autumn sesame that were completely destroyed by storm No. 2; currently, people are harvesting the remaining sesame that can be saved. The commune is organizing statistics for each household on the extent of damage to report to higher authorities. After finishing the summer-autumn sesame, they will switch to growing winter crops with varieties suitable for the locality.

Not only did the harvest fail, the sesame seeds after being gleaned were also not of the same quality as every year, so traders forced down the price. According to the people of Dien Trung commune, the price of sesame has dropped sharply. From over 35,000 VND/kg of black sesame, it is now only 26,000 VND/kg. The price of other types of sesame is 25,000 VND/kg (last year the price of all types of sesame was over 30,000 VND/kg).
Currently, in the fields, people are actively "picking sesame" to use as seeds for the next season. At the same time, they are clearing fallen trees to make room for planting in the next crop.
