Nghe An farmers earn billions from growing persimmons for fruit
(Baonghean.vn) - At this time, Nam Dan persimmons are ripe, people are focusing on harvesting; according to people, this year persimmons have high prices and a good harvest, so they are very excited.
For many years, persimmon has been considered a key fruit tree bringing high economic value to the communes along Dai Hue mountain (Nam Dan); in which Nam Anh commune has the largest planting area in the district with more than 100 hectares.
With an area of over 1 hectare of hilly garden land, Mr. Ho Viet Thang in Hamlet 5, Nam Anh Commune has arranged to plant nearly 100 rose bushes. Previously, his family only planted a few dozen rose bushes. After harvesting, seeing the high economic efficiency, he continued to graft branches to plant the entire garden area. Thanks to favorable weather, this year the fruit set rate is high, each tree on average yields over 1 quintal of fruit, with the garden price from 15,000 - 20,000 VND/kg, his family earned more than 100 million VND.

"I think this hilly land is suitable for growing roses. Before, we mainly grew forestry trees, but since switching to growing roses, we have found it much more effective. Especially, Nam Anh roses have a brand name, so traders come to buy them at home. This year, the output and selling price are both better than last year," said Mr. Thang.
According to the people, this is a tree with high economic value that no other crop can replace because persimmon is suitable for the climate and soil of the Dai Hue mountainside area. It is quite simple to grow because after harvesting, you only need to weed, hoe the soil around the base and fertilize 1 to 2 times, and it will bear fruit again in season.

Currently, the whole commune has 5/9 hamlets growing persimmons with an area of nearly 100 hectares.
