Tan Ky farmers earn 100 million VND/month from dairy cows

(Baonghean.vn)- For the past two years, farmers in Nghia Dong and Nghia Hop (Tan Ky) have been promoting dairy farming at home. With just 8 milking cows, a household can earn 60 million VND/month. Some households have increased their herds to 50 cows.

Ms. Le Thi Luong, Hamlet 3, Nghia Hop, is milking cows to send to the milk factory in Nghia Dan. She starts milking at 5 pm and finishes at 7 pm. Then, at 2 am, she gets up again to continue milking. Her family currently has 22 dairy cows, 8 of which give milk. Her family's daily milk output is 1.5 quintals. Every week, she receives 15 million VND from the factory for milk.

Farmers invest in their own milking machines and receive technical guidance from dairy factory staff. Milk is stored in refrigerators before being sent to the factory.

Commune officials and the district Agriculture Department inspected the dairy cow farming model in Nghia Hop Tan Ky. This is a new profession, and the district leaders came to work with the Vinamilk milk factory to bring the profession to the area.

Ms. Le Thi Loan's herd of cows in Hamlet 3, Nghia Hop. Ms. Loan has 5 mother cows and 4 breeding calves. "A mother cow giving birth to a breeding calf is like getting a gold nugget because a calf is worth 60 million VND/cow."

Cow food is fermented from elephant grass, molasses, and probiotics to create a delicious flavor.

The breeding cows are now from disease-free sources, controlled by dairy factory veterinary staff, so the milk source is guaranteed. The cows are assigned tracking numbers.

People in Nghia Dong commune let their dairy cows graze in the garden to create comfort for them. In Nghia Dong, there are families that invest in raising 50 dairy cows.

Thanks to dairy farming, families in Nghia Hop have food and savings. Many families have built spacious houses. Currently, Tan Ky district is striving to develop a herd of 1,000 dairy cows and this is currently the highest-income occupation for Tan Ky farmers.
