Hot: Russia deploys most advanced cruise missiles to destroy IS
Russia sent Tupolev Tu-95 strategic bombers equipped with Raduga Kh-101, one of the most advanced cruise missiles in its arsenal, to Syria to fight Islamic State militants.
The Kh-101 missile, developed by the Raduga Design Bureau, is 7.45 meters long and has a maximum launch weight of 2,400 kilograms, according to Sputnik. The missile carries a 400-kilogram warhead. Its variant, the Kh-102, can carry a 450-kiloton nuclear warhead.
The Russian Air Force deployed Tupolev Tu-95 strategic bombers carrying Raduga Kh-101 missiles to attack Islamic State (IS) targets near the city of Raqqa, the capital of IS in Syria. Each Tupolev Tu-95 is capable of carrying up to 8 Kh-101 missiles.The Kh-101 cruise missile has a range of up to 5,500 km, a maximum speed of 270 m/s, uses the GLONASS satellite navigation system for navigation and is said to be relatively accurate with an error margin of 5 - 6 m.
Previously, the Russian Defense Ministry also released a video showing its fighter jets destroying a command center and many military camps and training centers established by IS.
