(Baonghean.vn) - After nearly 10 years working as a prison officer, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Thi Giang has awakened the conscience of hundreds of people who have made mistakes and helped them find the bright path again.

Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Thi Giang is currently managing, educating and teaching 35 female prisoners how to make bamboo mats, belonging to Team 35, Sub-camp No. 1, Prison No. 6 (General Department VIII - Ministry of Public Security), stationed in Hanh Lam commune, Thanh Chuong district.

In 2008, after graduating from the Police College, the girl born in 1982 was assigned to work at Prison Unit No. 6. After a period of being assigned as a prison officer in the agricultural team, in charge of educating prisoners with light sentences, short sentences, and reformatory labor outside the unit's premises, the Board of Directors of Prison Unit No. 6 decided to "withdraw" this female prison officer to take on duties at the factory, which is a place for prisoners serving sentences for particularly serious crimes. Currently, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Thi Giang is in charge of educating Team 35, a team of female prisoners, working to make bamboo mats in the factory.

The biggest challenge for the 8X female prison guard is that this team gathers female prisoners of old age, with high, long and especially serious sentences, with complex composition, full of all kinds of crimes, from drugs, prostitution to fraud and appropriation of property, even murder. Among them, there are 7 prisoners with life sentences, 3 prisoners with 20-year sentences and many prisoners with sentences of over 20 years. Some of the sisters are old and have to serve long sentences, so there are times when their thoughts are confused and wavering.

At times like these, Giang had to encourage them, analyze, and share so that they could feel secure in their rehabilitation and work to reduce their sentences and soon reintegrate into the community. Not only that, for prisoners in particularly difficult circumstances, prisoners who have been "abandoned" by their relatives, have not been visited or cared for by them since entering prison, when they are sick, Giang plays the role of a mother, a sister to take care of them and provide medicine. Even for some prisoners, she has to spend her own money when they are sick and hospitalized, although not much, but enough to buy a kilo of sugar and a carton of milk when needed.

Up until now, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Thi Giang still can't remember how many times she has done that, with how many prisoners. All she knows is that the effect of those actions is the sincere recognition of the prisoners, not only helping the education and rehabilitation process of prisoners to be better, but many people after finishing their sentences, becoming useful people for society, have returned to prison to say thank you to their mother, the second teacher of their life.

With her quiet dedication, in 2016, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Thi Giang was honored as a grassroots emulation fighter. Before that, she was honored to receive a Certificate of Merit from the General Department of Criminal Judgment Execution and Judicial Support; the General Department's Women's Union also awarded her a Certificate of Merit for her contributions to women during the 5 years she held the position of President of the Women's Union of Sub-camp No. 1.

Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Thi Giang shared that each passing day, seeing the prisoners she directly educated progress and improve, she has more joy to quietly contribute, quietly sacrifice, and make a small contribution to help those who have made mistakes return to their families and communities soon, and become useful citizens to society./.
