(Baonghean.vn)- A few minutes ago, at Buckingham Palace, 59-year-old Home Secretary Theresa May officially took office as British Prime Minister, replacing David Cameron. With this new challenging position, both the British and European people hope that Mrs. May's new government will "steer" the British ship through the storm caused by the "storm" of Brexit.

Minutes earlier, Mr Cameron had gone to Buckingham Palace to submit his resignation to Queen Elizabeth II, and nominated Theresa May as his successor.

After Mr. Cameron left Buckingham Palace, Mrs. Theresa May went to see the Queen, performed the traditional ceremony of "kissing the Queen's hand", before officially becoming the second female Prime Minister in British history after the "Iron Lady" Margaret Thatcher.

One of Theresa May's first tasks as Prime Minister is to form a new cabinet. Theresa May's biggest challenge is taking Britain out of the EU.

"Brexit is Brexit. Britain is not trying to stay in the EU or rejoin the EU through the back door. And there will be no second referendum," Mrs May declared.

Before taking office as Prime Minister, Theresa May spent 6 years as Home Secretary, becoming the longest-serving person in the UK in over 100 years. During her 6 years in office, Theresa May has given more power to help the police crack down on crime, strengthen border protection, reduce immigration and protect the UK from terrorism./.
