Raising Boer goats is effective right from the first litter.
(Baonghean.vn) - Many young farmers in Tan An commune, Tan Ky district have invested billions of dong in raising Boer goats. Initial results show that the goats are growing well and the consumption market is stable.
Regarding Tan An commune (Tan Ky), talking about new business models, Mr. Cao Tien Thin - Chairman of the Commune People's Committee enthusiastically led us to visit the model of raising Boer goats in buckets of young people with the will to get rich in the commune.

After a winding journey around the foot of the mountain, we arrived at camp.goat farmingof Mr. Thai Ba Tuan in Tan Thinh hamlet. Before entering the barn, Mr. Tuan did not forget to remind us to disinfect our hands with hand sanitizer to ensure disease safety for the goat herd.
In front of a herd of hundreds of goats, Mr. Thai Ba Tuan confided that 5 months ago, he was lent money by relatives and friends to invest in raising goats in captivity. After the barn system was carefully built and a heat-proofing system was installed by spraying rain on the roof, he invested 1.5 billion VND to buy Boer goats to raise in captivity.

According to Mr. Tuan, the characteristics of this goat breed are that it is easy to raise, the main food is leaves and shoots, so it is convenient for this mountainous area. In addition, supplementing food: grass, ground corn, fermented corn starch... are all available locally, so costs are reduced, goats grow quickly, and meat quality is guaranteed.
However, with this Boer goat breed, the initial difficulty was when transporting it from another province to raise, the goats were not yet accustomed to the weather and food sources, so they often suffered from stomach aches and diarrhea. However, with persistent care, after a short time, Mr. Tuan overcame those difficulties.

During the care period, he selected good reproductive female goats for breeding, the rest were raised for meat. The characteristic of female goats is that after 4 months of giving birth, they give birth to a litter, so the herd of goats is increasingly crowded, at the peak, the herd multiplied to 720 goats. To facilitate care, he built 3 breeding facilities in 3 households, creating jobs for many workers.
Recently, Mr. Tuan sold his first batch of meat goats weighing 2.2 tons, which were purchased by restaurants in and outside the province at prices ranging from 85,000 to 120,000 VND/kg. In fact, the economic efficiency is higher than other types of livestock.
"For many years now, many goat specialty restaurants have opened in the district, as well as in and outside the province, and goat meat consumption is strong, so the demand for goat meat is high, and all the quantity is sold out. Not only that, I also slaughter goats and supply meat to restaurants serving weddings, conferences... so the amount of goat consumed is high," Mr. Tuan shared.
It is known that in Tan An commune, a goat breeding association was established in April 2023, initially with 11 members, now there are 13 members. The total herd of goats of the association is currently nearly 1,300.

Mr. Cao Tien Thin - Chairman of Tan An Commune People's Committee said: Local people have long been familiar with raising native goats. This Boer goat breed ismodelFirst, it was carried out by members of the goat raising association, who were young people in the commune. Through monitoring, it was shown that the members actively learned from each other's experiences and gradually expanded the scale of the barn.
Along with other livestock associations in the commune: snail livestock association, aquaculture association and other farming models, Tan An commune is a locality with diverse agricultural products of high economic value, creating jobs for hundreds of workers.
