Farmers in Ky Ha commune (Ky Anh town, Ha Tinh) are expanding the model of raising Pacific oysters on ropes. This type of oyster is considered a "miracle drug", does not cost money to buy food, and brings in tens of millions of dong per crop.

In recent years, dozens of households living near the mouth of the Vinh River and Quyen River in Ky Ha Commune, Ky Anh Town have expanded their Pacific oyster farming model. This milk oyster species is considered a "miracle drug", easy to raise, low cost, farmers have boldly expanded the scale, pocketing tens of millions of dong per crop. Along the mouth of the Vinh River and Quyen River (Ky Ha Commune), there are currently nearly 120 large and small oyster rafts owned by nearly 60 households in Nam Ha and Bac Ha villages.

The hanging oyster farming model has a fairly simple farming technique. Farmers prepare rafts that can withstand the growing volume of oysters. This is a species of oyster originating from Japan, with a fast growth rate and wide distribution. Oyster seeds cling to the substrate.

Farmers divide the oyster growing lines into many small ones. Every 5 oyster growing substrates are arranged on each line, from one line to the next 20-30cm apart, each row of lines is 30-40cm apart. Each line of ocean milk oysters has up to 30-40 oysters, weighing about 15kg.

Each 100m2 oyster raft will yield 1.3-1.5 tons of oyster shells. The price of each kilogram of oyster shells ranges from 25,000-30,000 VND, and the price of shelled oysters ranges from 80,000-120,000 VND/kg. Each 100m2 raft can earn farmers from 20-25 million VND.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Thang, Vice Chairman of Ky Ha Commune People's Committee, said that in 2015, Ky Anh Town People's Committee sent officials to visit and learn about the Pacific oyster farming model in Quang Ninh province, including some farmers. Since then, Mr. Thang and the people have brought this model to raise, develop and expand in Ky Ha commune, bringing high economic efficiency.

In 2016, the People's Committee of Ky Ha commune piloted 7 rafts of Pacific oyster farming model. Each raft was supported with a maximum of 30 million VND. Realizing that this is an effective farming model with low investment capital, people boldly invested even though there was no longer a support mechanism.

Mr. Le Quang Nhuan (70 years old, Bac Ha village, Ky Ha commune) said that this year his family invested in 3 rafts, each raft costing 15 million VND. "Oyster farming costs less than shrimp and fish farming, and there is no cost for oyster feed. The output is stable, and the technique of hanging the oysters on a fishing line is also simple. Oysters raised for commercial purposes will be ready for harvest in about 5-6 months," said Mr. Nhuan.

Oysters' food is seaweed, algae, organic debris in the water,... This oyster farming model also contributes to improving the water environment and ecosystem of estuaries.

According to Oriental medicine, oysters have the effect of nourishing yin and blood, very suitable for people with diseases such as weakness. Oyster meat has a high zinc content. In addition, oysters also play an important role in improving physiological function in men.

Every 6 months, people will harvest oysters and then sell them to traders. This is a model that brings stable income to people with little risk.
