(Baonghean.vn) - Raising shrimp safely according to VietGAP process is much more effective than raising shrimp in the traditional way. Currently, Nghe An has built 7 models.

In the trend of market competition, ensuring food safety and hygiene standards, environmental safety in shrimp farming according to biosafety processes is an inevitable requirement, helping shrimp farmers minimize risks, reduce costs, and increase income.

Mr. Vu Van Duc, hamlet 4, Quynh Luong commune (Quynh Luu) started raising white-leg shrimp in 2008, applying biosafety shrimp farming according to VietGAP process since 2013. Mr. Duc said that his family's shrimp farming area is 7.4 hectares, divided into 7 farming ponds with an area of ​​2.8 hectares; 5 settling and treatment ponds with an area of ​​2.5 hectares.

From pond treatment, seed selection, nursery, seed release, care, management... to harvesting, Mr. Duc strictly follows biosafety procedures so that shrimp have few diseases, reduce costs, and achieve high yields. After 80 days of farming, the shrimp are harvested in small batches, reaching a size of 40 shrimp/kg, after 90 days of farming, the shrimp are harvested in full, reaching a size of 33 shrimp/kg, the yield in 2015 reached 35 tons of shrimp, minus costs, the profit is about 3 billion VND, previously, traditional extensive farming only reached 25 tons.

Mr. Tran Xuan Hoc - Head of the Aquaculture Sub-Department, said: With the support from the Coastal Resources for Sustainable Development Project, after 3 years (from 2013 - 2015), the Aquaculture Sub-Department has successfully built 7 VietGAP white-leg shrimp farming process models in the communes of Quynh Thanh, Quynh Bang, Quynh Yen (Quynh Luu); Quynh Loc, Quynh Xuan, Quynh Di (Hoang Mai Town) and Dien Trung (Dien Chau) with a total area of ​​240 hectares. The results showed that the productivity reached approximately 5 tons/ha/crop, nearly 2 times higher than shrimp farming outside the project area.

In order for shrimp farmers in general to apply biosafety shrimp farming techniques according to VietGAP process, aiming at the goal of sustainable biosafety shrimp farming, the Department continues to build models and organize conferences and seminars.

Besides, the input quality needs special attention, the breed must be fully quarantined by specialized agencies before being released for farming.
