Hundreds of tons of VietGAP carrots in Hoang Mai town have dropped in price.

Entering the end of the harvest season, although there was a good harvest, dozens of tons of carrots that met VietGAP standards, also a 3-star OCOP product in Quynh Lien commune (Hoang Mai town), had their prices drop dozens of times compared to before Tet.

After the full moon of January, on the VietGAP vegetable fields in Quynh Lien commune, Hoang Mai town, people are still actively harvesting. Carrots, radishes, chayote, green onions, kohlrabi... are vegetables, tubers, and fruits grown year-round. Of which, chayote and fresh carrots have been grown according to VietGAP standards since 2017 and have been recognized as meeting 3-star OCOP standards in 2023. Photo: HT

Ho Van Tinh's family in Hamlet 5, Quynh Lien Commune planted 6 sao of carrots this year. Mr. Tinh said that this year's carrots had a good harvest, with a high yield of about 55 quintals/ha. As of February 13, 2025, after more than 3 months of planting, Mr. Tinh's family had harvested 4 sao, and there are still 2 sao being harvested. However, after the Lunar New Year, the price of carrots has dropped sharply, from 12,000 VND/kg to 500 VND/kg. Photo: HT

Carrot growers said that because they harvested too large carrots (about 2-3 carrots/kg), they were difficult to sell, because traders only bought carrots of average weight. Companies and supermarkets also only imported carrots of the same size, about 4-6 carrots/kg. Photo: HT

Mr. Nguyen Van Thuyet, a land and agricultural official of the People's Committee of Quynh Lien commune, said that in the commune, there are 5 hamlets that mainly produce agriculture, growing seasonal vegetables, tubers, and fruits. People only choose beautiful tubers to import to traders, remove cracked tubers, tubers with bad shapes and sell them for 100 - 200 VND/kg to deer farmers. The leaves are used as fertilizer and feed for buffaloes and cows. Photo: HT
