Gambling den for long-distance truck drivers disguised as a restaurant
(Baonghean.vn) - To satisfy the gambling cravings of long-distance drivers, a restaurant on Ho Chi Minh Road (Nghia Dan) has also turned into a gambling den, gambling day and night in the form of dice shaking.
Son Hau restaurant is located on Ho Chi Minh road (in Nghia Binh commune, Nghia Dan district). For more than a month now, long-distance drivers have been gathering here to eat and drink in large numbers.
In addition to eating and drinking, many drivers also stay at this restaurant to gamble all night long, mainly from Nghe An province in the two districts of Quynh Luu and Nghia Dan. It is worth mentioning that, some nights, because of losing money in gambling, many drivers argue loudly with each other, and the gamblers even threaten to fight each other, causing discontent among the people.

Receiving information from the people, the District Police Criminal Investigation Team was present at the area of the Son Hau restaurant mentioned above to investigate and verify. Here, the detectives saw a number of truck drivers, mainly residents of 37A, who transported goods during the day and gathered at the Son Hau restaurant at night to organize gambling by shaking the plate.
To fight and catch the above subjects, the leaders of Nghia Dan District Police assigned the Criminal Police Team to establish a special project coded 0516DB and deploy a plan to solve the case. However, when the detectives arrived at Son Hau restaurant, the group of drivers who regularly came to eat and gamble here had dispersed, with only 2 drivers from Thai Binh province repairing their vehicles but not related to gambling as reported by the people.
A source said that this afternoon (May 23), a group of drivers, about a dozen people, mainly residents of Quynh Luu and Nghia Dan districts, came here to eat. Before getting on the truck, the drivers shook hands and agreed to return to this restaurant in 2 days to continue gambling.
Considering that this was a large gambling case, with many participants, involving many cargo drivers, the Investigation Police Agency of Nghia Dan District Police decided to coordinate with Traffic Police Team 1/48 (under the Road and Railway Traffic Police Department) to deploy a plan to solve the case.
At around 8pm on May 23, 2016, detectives discovered a group of about ten drivers who often gambled at the restaurant area in Nghia Binh commune appeared at the Son Hau restaurant. After finishing eating and drinking, the above subjects called for gambling by shaking the dice.

At around 9:30 p.m. the same day, when the gamblers were bowing their heads and gambling, the task force decided to crack the case. Upon receiving the signal from the task force leader, three working groups including detectives from the Criminal Police Team and four officers from the Traffic Police Team 1/48 appeared in the driver's dining room and caught 10 subjects red-handed while they were gambling by shaking the dice.
Through classification, the Investigation Agency identified 7 subjects directly involved in gambling, including: To Tien Phong (born in 1983, residing in Quynh Thang commune, Quynh Luu district); Thai Xuan Hai (born in 1984, residing in Nghia Hung commune, Nghia Dan district); Pham Xuan Ty (born in 1984), residing in Nghia Hong commune, Nghia Dan district; Nguyen Van Tuan (born in 1985), residing in Nghia Hong commune, Nghia Dan district; To Thien Quy (born in 1990), residing in Quynh Thang commune, Quynh Luu district; Ho Van Long (born in 1983, residing in Quynh Thang commune, Quynh Luu and Ngo Quang Hoang (born in 1988), residing in Quynh Chau commune, Quynh Luu district (Nghe An).
The seized exhibits included 7 mobile phones, 48,300,000 VND in cash, 1 set of dishes and 4 cards cut into circles for gambling. After taking initial statements and consolidating the case file, on May 26, the Investigation Police Agency of Nghia Dan District Police decided to prosecute the case, prosecute the 7 defendants for gambling and issued a decision to temporarily detain To Tien Phong for the above crime to serve the investigation.
This is the first gambling case in which the defendants were long-distance drivers to be busted in Nghia Dan district.
