According to RIA Novosti on December 11, citing sources close to Reuters, US President-elect Donald Trump said during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris that he wanted an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine.

“The three leaders, who spoke for 35 minutes without advisers, did not discuss in detail any vision for peace. However, Mr. Trump stressed that he wanted an immediate ceasefire and negotiations to quickly end the fighting,” Reuters said.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Zelensky tried to connect his stance with Mr. Trump and explained that Kiev would need security guarantees if the conflict ended. Reuters sources said that President-elect Trump is friendly, open and listening, and is willing to listen to the opinions of all sides.

According to sources, several “key points” were mentioned at the meeting, especially that achieving peace must come with “guarantees”, because “a ceasefire alone is not enough”.

According to Reuters, Mr. Trump is “looking at all the details.” Overall, the meeting provided the first glimpses of how negotiations to end the conflict might proceed, although the process has been fraught with difficulties and the role of the United States in resolving the issue remains unclear.
