Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the groundbreaking ceremony for a joint Russian-Chinese nuclear project on May 19 via video link, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying announced.

"On May 19, Chinese President Xi Jinping, via video link from Beijing, will join Russian President Vladimir Putin in the groundbreaking ceremony of a joint Russian-Chinese nuclear energy project," the announcement posted on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China said. The news did not specify which project.
Russia and China have a long-standing and close experience in nuclear cooperation. Russia has participated in the construction of four units of the Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant (Jiangsu Province) and one demonstration fast reactor (CEFR) in China. In addition, two more units will be built at the Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant and two units at the Xiapu Nuclear Power Plant (Xiapu County, Fujian Province).
The Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant is the largest economic cooperation project between Russia and China.
