Additionally, National Security Advisor HR McMaster will be given responsibility for setting the agenda for meetings of the NSC or Homeland Security Council.
In this reshuffle, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford will continue to be “official participants” on the NSC’s leadership committee.
Mr. Bannon, who previously ran Breitbart News, was named to the NSC's leadership committee when Mr. Trump took office.
The move has drawn criticism from members of Congress and Washington's foreign policy establishment.
A White House official confirmed the news and said the move was the result of a restructuring by HR McMaster.
Mr. McMaster was appointed as National Security Advisor on February 20 to replace Mr. Michael Flynn, who was dismissed in connection with a scandal about his secret conversations with Russian Ambassador to Washington Sergey Kislyak.
According to this White House official, Mr. McMaster has his own ideas for work and President Trump promised that this general could appoint his people to the NSC.
