US President Donald Trump congratulated Mr. Vladimir Putin on winning the presidential election in the Russian Federation.
During the conversation, the two leaders called for concerted efforts to limit the arms race, develop cooperation, including strategic stability and the fight against terrorism.
"At the initiative of the US side, a telephone conversation took place between President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and President of the United States Donald Trump," the Kremlin said.
During the conversation, Trump congratulated Putin on his victory in the presidential election. "The two leaders spoke about supporting the development of practical cooperation in other areas, including issues of strategic stability and the fight against international terrorism. In particular, they stressed the importance of joint efforts to limit the arms race."
Earlier, a White House spokesman confirmed the phone conversation between the two leaders to Sputnik.The White House has said Mr Trump has no plans to call Mr Putin about his victory in the presidential election.
Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian leader, told reporters that the Kremlin does not consider the lack of congratulations to Vladimir Putin on the occasion of his victory in the election of the President of the Russian Federation from his American counterpart as an unfriendly move, and that Moscow is always open to normalizing relations with Washington.
