According toNBCPresident Trump has told some people outside the White House that he will leave the position of White House chief of staff open, at which point he will report directly to senior aides in a similar operating model to his former Trump Organization.
The information was released just hours after former White House senior adviser Steve Bannon toldFinancial Timesthat if White House Chief of Staff John Kelly leaves the administration, President Trump will not find a replacement.
Speculation that Mr. Kelly could be fired arose in the context of a series of White House officials recently either announcing their resignations or being fired, including Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and National Security Advisor HRMcMaster.
Although Mr. Trump has said that Mr. Kelly's "seat" is "100% safe," according to local media, there have been some disagreements between them since Mr. Kelly entered the White House last summer. Some sources say that the White House boss feels constrained by Mr. Kelly's moves.
