Pep Guardiola wants Thiago Alcântara to follow him to Manchester City
Thiago was brought to Bayern from Barcelona by Guardiola for around £17m in 2013. The Spaniard signed a new contract with Bayern until 2019 last summer, so the 24-year-old's transfer value will be at least £25m.
Thiago's move to Man City could put Yaya Touré's future in doubt. Thiago fits perfectly into Guardiola's tactics, which require a technically sharp playmaker in midfield. The Spaniard has repeatedly expressed his admiration for the Catalan, as he is the only player Guardiola has brought to Bayern from Barca.
In May 2015, when Bayern met Barca in the Champions League semi-finals, Thiago declared that there was always a mutual admiration between him and Guardiola. "Pep has always had faith in me, so if he were the coach of a team, I would love to be his student," Thiago said, when asked about the reason for leaving Barca.
Since suffering a knee injury that kept Thiago out of the game for a year in March 2015, the Spaniard has started to recover and return to action. The Bayern midfielder will be in the Spanish national team squad for the upcoming international matches against Italy and Romania.
