Ukrainian President Zelensky, in an interview with the Chosun newspaper (South Korea), said that after the end of the conflict in Ukraine, Belarus will be the next target of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Twitter users are actively discussing this topic.
"Is this why Belarus is armed with nuclear weapons?" - one user asked.
"Does Mr. Zelensky have no other way to attract the attention of the West?!" - another user commented.
"Last time, Mr. Zelensky talked about President Putin's plans to invade Europe," said one reader.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has said that allegations that Belarus is supposed to become part of Russia are "a Western invention." According to Lukashenko, Minsk and Moscow are sane enough to create an alliance that is even stronger than a unified entity.
On May 26, President Lukashenko also announced that the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus had begun. He said that Moscow should not worry about the safety of the nuclear arsenal being deployed in this country because Minsk will keep them safe.
The Belarusian Foreign Ministry reiterated that this was a reaction to the "aggressive policies being pursued by unfriendly states".
"Over the past two and a half years, the Republic of Belarus has been subjected to unprecedented political, economic and informational pressure from the United States, the United Kingdom and NATO allies, as well as member states of the European Union (EU). Given these circumstances, as well as legitimate concerns and risks in the field of national security arising from them, Belarus is forced to respond by strengthening its own security and defense capabilities," the Belarusian Foreign Ministry stated.
