Launching the peak month for the whole people to join forces to do irrigation work

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of November 29, the Provincial People's Committee held a meeting to continue mobilizing the entire population to work on irrigation, rural transportation, new rural construction and flood prevention in urban areas. Comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired the meeting.

Attending the meeting were Vice Chairmen of the Provincial People's Committee: Dinh Viet Hong, Huynh Thanh Dien and representatives of relevant departments, branches, localities and Irrigation LLCs in the province.

Overview of the meeting

Implementing Directive No. 17/CT-UBND dated October 6, 2016 of the Provincial People's Committee on organizing a campaign to mobilize the entire population to do irrigation work, proactively prevent drought and floods, ensure irrigation for winter crop production and production in 2017, recently, the Party committees, authorities of districts, towns, cities and units have launched campaigns to do irrigation and rural transportation.

By November 25, 20/21 districts, cities, towns and 7/7 irrigation companies had started to work on irrigation traffic. According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the whole province had completed 682,785 working days, cutting grass, clearing, and collecting duckweed over 1.6 million m2 of canals; dredging canals and irrigation works over 272 thousand m3 of soil; digging, filling and repairing works and canals over 246,000 m3 of soil.

Comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Xuan Duong said: "In the past, localities have not been resolute in the work of irrigation and traffic, so the efficiency has not been high. In the coming time, the entire political system must resolutely take part in the work of irrigation and traffic, not just for a day or two but lasting until the end of December".

However, due to unfavorable weather, along with some localities not really paying proper attention, the plans and implementation plans of some localities are not regularly followed, inspected and urged; the reporting work of localities and units is not good, so the implementation volume is not high.

According to the plan, from December 5, localities, units and people in the province will simultaneously launch the peak month of irrigation work this year. During the peak month of irrigation work and flood prevention from December 1 to December 31, the goal is to dredge over 284 m3 of mud on canals and works; build embankments on over 241 m of land.³, clearing, cutting grass, and removing algae over 1 million m²Estimated implementation cost is 91,550 million VND.

Faced with the fact that localities have not done well in launching irrigation, rural and new rural transport and urban flood prevention in the past time, comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, directed: Directors of departments, branches and localities to seriously implement a number of contents: Strictly implement Directive 17 of the Provincial People's Committee on launching irrigation, transport, new rural construction, environmental sanitation, urban flood prevention, lasting until December 31, 2016. All branches and localities must simultaneously organize the launching on December 5, 2016.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development presided over the assignment of officers to the locality to direct and inspect the organization of the campaign to build irrigation and traffic works. Departments, branches, youth organizations, and media and press agencies proactively participated, responded, and promoted the movement.
