Many new drugs that cause strong hallucinations have been discovered.

There are substances discovered for the first time in our country, there are new drugs that are not yet on the list of drugs in Vietnam according to Decree 73 of the Government promulgating the list of drugs and precursors. The number of drugs currently managed is 515, double the previous number.

New drug appears in Vietnam.

Typically, some new drugs were discovered such as: N-Ethylpentylone, Propyphenidate, Acetylpsilocine... These are substances that stimulate the central nervous system and cause hallucinations; all of these substances are not yet on the list of drugs in Vietnam. Or Methylphenidate, FUB-144, which has a strong hallucinogenic effect, was discovered for the first time in Vietnam.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Dang Van Doan, Deputy Director of the Institute of Criminal Science, recently through the special forensic work of the Institute of Criminal Science, a very sophisticated method of drug criminals was discovered, which is to use derivatives of a mixed drug to create tablets for use. After taking this tablet, the human body will metabolize and release the drug.

For example, Acetylpsilocine (not listed in the list of narcotics in Vietnam) is found to be a derivative of Psilocine in the tablet. When taken into the body, it will metabolize and release Psilocine, which has a strong hallucinogenic effect (Psilocine is listed in the list of narcotics in Vietnam).

In nature, Psilocine and Psilocybine are found simultaneously in the plant samples of “magic mushrooms” containing drugs (there are 2 common types Psilocybe Cubensis and Psilocybe Mexicana). However, in some samples only Psilocine is found but no Psilocybine or other plant components are found. Thus, the drug tablets are not produced from the powder of “magic mushrooms” but Psilocine may be extracted from “magic mushrooms” or from chemical synthesis.

When a new drug is discovered and put under control, new substances with similar effects continuously appear to replace it, typically synthetic marijuana. Currently, there are over 200 controlled substances in Vietnam, but new substances with similar effects or even stronger effects continuously appear. More than 20 synthetic marijuana drugs have been discovered in our country.

Also according to Lieutenant Colonel Dang Van Doan, previously, in September, the Institute of Criminal Science discovered many new drugs of the synthetic marijuana group (in Vietnam, also known by the slang name "American Weed").

“American Weed” is created by using synthetic chemicals that have similar effects to the active ingredient Delta 9 - THC in marijuana, then mixed into a solution and sprayed, soaked into plants, dried herbs (not plants, herbs containing drugs but these are objects containing drugs), then dried to create a product called “American Weed”.

In addition, in order to increase the stimulating, euphoric, addictive effects, conceal criminal acts, and achieve the highest profits, criminals have mixed drugs together, mixed drugs with other fillers, mixed drugs with modern medicines along with colorants and flavoring agents to create different synthetic drug tablets.

Recently, there have been cases of drugs being mixed into drinks discovered at some bars and dance floors... Through examination, many different drug ingredients were found such as Ketamine, Methammphetamine, MDMA, Nimetazepam...

The use of a mixture of many drug components in a sample (drink or in a tablet) is currently very dangerous, causing central nervous system stimulation, hallucinations, possible poisoning, affecting life - Lieutenant Colonel Dang Van Doan emphasized. However, the types of drugs mixed in the above drinks have not yet been discovered or seized in the market and the Institute of Criminal Science has not yet conducted an appraisal of any related cases.

To prevent the spread of these new drugs as well as improve the effectiveness of drug appraisal work in Vietnam, Lieutenant Colonel Dang Van Doan said that first of all, it is necessary to control the drug supply well. In addition, it is necessary to strictly control chemicals, precursors as well as related modern medicines and veterinary medicines that drug criminals can take advantage of to commit crimes, this requires inter-sectoral coordination between ministries and branches: Public Security, National Defense, Industry and Trade, Agriculture, Health... For appraisal work, it is necessary to supplement drug standards. For new drugs that are not yet on the list, they need to be added to the list of controlled drugs in Vietnam soon...
