While fishing, Vietnamese fishermen discovered a drifting barge serving construction projects at sea, suspected to be Chinese.

On January 18, Captain Tran Dinh Ngoc, Head of the Sa Ky Port Border Guard Station (Quang Ngai Border Guard Command), said that two local fishermen had just discovered a barge drifting freely at sea.

Two days ago, fishermen Ho Thanh Tuan and Do Thanh Cong (residing in Tinh Ky commune, Quang Ngai city) discovered a barge drifting at sea while fishing 15 nautical miles from Sa Ky estuary. They then pulled the vehicle ashore and reported it to the Sa Ky Port Border Guard Station.

"The barge is 30m long, 7m wide, 5m high, and has an operating compartment used for construction works at sea," said Captain Ngoc.

Initially, Quang Ngai authorities determined that the barge, suspected to be operated by China, had its mooring line broken during storms in late 2017 and drifted into Vietnamese waters.
