Confirm withPVOn the evening of February 23, a leader of the Department of Animal Health (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) said that the test results of some serum samples and viscera of dead pigs of a household in Thuy Nguyen district, Hai Phong detected African swine fever virus (ASFV).

Accordingly, on February 22, after taking 5 samples of serum and viscera of dead pigs at Mr. Vu Van Dat's household in village 12, Chinh My commune, Thuy Nguyen district for testing, the results of the Veterinary Department of Region II confirmed that 2/5 samples tested positive for African swine fever.

Currently, the Department of Animal Health (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) is coordinating with Hai Phong City authorities to isolate, verify, and handle the newly discovered African swine fever outbreak in Thuy Nguyen district.

Previously, as reported, on the afternoon of February 19, Director of the Department of Animal Health (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) Pham Van Dong announced that in Vietnam, there were two outbreaks of African swine fever in Hung Yen and Thai Binh.

The Department of Animal Health assessed that the risk of disease outbreaks in localities is very high, due to the increase in trading, transporting, slaughtering, and consuming pork during the recent Lunar New Year, and the disease may have appeared in other localities.

Immediately afterwards, on February 20, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc issued a directive to ministries, branches, provinces and cities requesting the synchronous implementation of urgent solutions to control African swine fever in the face of the disease appearing in Hung Yen and Thai Binh.
