Promoting the role of fishermen in protecting sea and island sovereignty

On the morning of October 21, the People's Committee of Nghe An province held a conference to review 10 years of implementing the law on mobilizing human resources, ships and civil means to participate in protecting sovereignty and sovereign rights in Vietnam's seas.

Nghe An sea area includes 3 districts, 2 towns with a coastline of 82 km, population of 1.2 million people. Nghe An has 2 nearshore islands, Ngu island and Mat island, 7 seaports, 6 estuaries and creeks. The whole province has nearly 3,500 ships and boats. Of which, there are more than 1,000 ships with 300CV or more with more than 17,000 workers directly exploiting seafood at sea. The maritime militia force consists of 12 platoons, 23 squads with more than 600 people.

After 10 years of implementing Decree No. 30/2010/ND-CP and 5 years of implementing Decree No. 130/2015/ND-CP, Nghe An province has always received attention and direction from Party committees and authorities at all levels. The marine economy has developed quite rapidly and comprehensively, contributing about 56% of the province's GRDP. The maritime security situation is basically stable, and fishermen in the area have a high awareness of protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands.

Examples include the plane crash.Su30-MK2 crashed in Nghe An watersin June 2016. At that time, within 4 days, Nghe An province mobilized nearly 1,200 fishermen with more than 170 of their ships and boats to join the search for the missing pilot....

In addition to the advantages, the summary conference also frankly pointed out the shortcomings and limitations in this work to find out the causes and solutions to overcome them in the coming time. The conference also pointed out a number of difficulties and shortcomings to propose to the Government to remove and make appropriate changes./.
