(Baonghean.vn) - In recent years, rubber and sugarcane have been the main crops that have helped Tan Ky farmers have jobs, contributing effectively to hunger eradication, poverty reduction, and legitimate enrichment. Continuing to promote that potential advantage, in the coming time, Tan Ky's policy is to develop rubber plantation area, increase sugarcane productivity, domesticate cattle and promote farm economic development.
Expanding rubber area
Tan Ky has 20 thousand hectares of agricultural land. In recent years, with the active participation of the government and people, the whole district has planted more than 2 thousand hectares of rubber, 5 thousand hectares of raw sugarcane, the rest are other crops, such as rice, corn, cassava... Rubber trees in Tan Ky have affirmed their role in economic and social development. Currently, in the district, many families have invested in growing rubber trees as farms, earning over 1 billion VND/year.
Comrade Pham Van Hoa - Vice Chairman of Tan Ky District People's Committee
Mr. Pham Van Hoa - Vice Chairman of Tan Ky District People's Committee affirmed: Rubber trees were planted in Tan Ky district since 2003, mainly concentrated in 3 farms: Song Con, Vuc Rong and An Ngai. By 1999, the whole district had planted 707 hectares. But from 2000 to 2005, due to many reasons, the rubber area of Tan Ky decreased to only 581 hectares. In the first years of exploitation, the latex yield was only 6 - 7 quintals/ha, but after people realized the role of rubber trees, they focused on investing in intensive cultivation, and now the latex yield has reached 40 quintals/ha (nearly 6 times higher than the initial period).
Seeing the benefits of rubber trees, in 2006 Tan Ky built a project to develop rubber trees for the period 2006 - 2010 and 2011 - 2015. From 2006 to now, implementing the policies to support rubber planting of the province and district, farmers in the whole district have newly planted 1,411 hectares, bringing the total rubber area of the district to 1,992 hectares. The goal of the project is that by 2015 Tan Ky will plant 3,500 hectares of rubber. To achieve that goal, the district has initially planned 3 key rubber growing areas. Area 1 includes the communes of Tan Hop, Tan Xuan, Giai Xuan, Youth Volunteer Team 4, Protective Forest Management Board, Tan Phu, Tan Long (2,800 hectares). Area 2 includes the communes of Dong Van, Nghia Phuc, Huong Son, Tan An (1,500 hectares). Zone 3 in Phu Son commune (200 ha).
To facilitate rubber farmers, the District People's Committee has a policy of supporting 100% of the value of seedlings for replanting in the first 2 years of new planting areas damaged by natural disasters. Support for Truc Dien bamboo seedlings for households planting rubber in the first year with a scale of 1 hectare or more, with a standard of 100 bamboo roots/ha. Planting Truc Dien bamboo around rubber gardens aims to block the wind, limit damage during storms, and at the same time exploit bamboo shoots for food.
The economic efficiency of rubber trees is very clear. Compared to other crops grown on the same land, rubber trees have the highest net profit. 1 hectare of rubber has an average annual income of over 74 million VND, after deducting expenses, the net profit is over 53 million VND. In addition to economic efficiency, rubber trees also create jobs for producers, reduce social evils, contribute to stabilizing life in residential areas, improve the ecological environment, increase forest cover, prevent soil erosion, and limit damage caused by storms and floods. From the high economic efficiency of rubber trees, the Provincial People's Committee needs to have a support policy mechanism to expand the area of rubber trees in the coming years.
Increase sugarcane productivity
Tan Ky currently has 5 thousand hectares of sugarcane, annually supplying raw materials for Song Con Sugarcane Joint Stock Company. However, sugarcane productivity is not high, currently only reaching an average of 45 - 50 tons/ha. The reason is that up to now, localities have still taken advantage of high hilly land to grow sugarcane. Sugarcane is a drought-resistant plant, so in drought years, the productivity of sugarcane in hilly areas is low.
Increasing sugarcane productivity is the goal of Tan Ky.
To gradually increase sugarcane productivity, Tan Ky has planned to gradually convert corn and peanut growing areas in lowland areas to sugarcane growing. Many localities in the district have determined that sugarcane growing is highly effective, so they should convert corn to sugarcane growing. If 1 hectare of sugarcane is planted in favorable land, with proper investment, the yield will be from 80 to 100 tons per hectare. The factory's purchase price is 900 VND/kg, then 1 hectare of sugarcane will bring in 70 to 90 million VND. If corn is planted, the yield will be more than 3 tons/ha, the selling price is 6,000 VND/kg, earning nearly 20 million VND. Meanwhile, sugarcane can be grown for 3 years, so investment costs can be reduced.
Improve qualityherd of buffalo and cows
Currently, Tan Ky has a total herd of 18,603 cows and 30,843 buffaloes. As a district with many advantages for developing cattle breeding, over the years, people have invested heavily in commercial cattle breeding. Along with increasing the quantity, Tan Ky also focuses on improving the quality of the cattle herd by crossbreeding Zebu cattle. In early 2011, Tan Ky District People's Committee developed a project to improve the quality of the cattle herd in the period 2011 - 2015. The purpose of the project is to focus on improving the quality of the cattle herd in the direction of commodity production, concentrating, contributing to the restructuring of the agricultural economy, focusing on cattle breeding. By 2015, the herd of cattle will be increased to 22,633 and the buffalo herd to 34,053. Each year, we strive to artificially inseminate 1,000 to 2,000 doses of crossbred cows, with 600 to 1,800 calves born; artificially inseminate 50 to 250 doses of Murrah buffalo, with 50 to 150 calves born. Up to now, Tan Ky has 7,751 Sind crossbred cows, accounting for 41% of the total herd.
Tan Ky is gradually improving the quality of its cattle herd.
To achieve that goal, in addition to the province's support policy mechanism, Tan Ky supports concentrated feed equivalent to 50 thousand VND/buffalo, cow that is artificially inseminated and pregnant; supports F1 Sind crossbred bulls for remote mountainous areas, places that do not have conditions for artificial insemination (support level is 60% of the price of imported bulls); supports the purchase of nitrogen tanks to serve the work of artificial insemination. Build 5 models of raising high-quality Sind crossbred cows... It is expected that in 5 years (from 2011 - 2015), Tan Ky will allocate nearly 850 million VND from the budget to support the raising of Sind crossbred cows. From there, limit and gradually end the situation of breeding toad bulls, poor quality bulls.
Economic developmentfarm
Developing farm economy has been the right policy of Tan Ky district for many years. Therefore, in recent years, the farm economy movement in localities in the district has developed strongly in both quantity and quality. Up to now, the whole district has had more than 300 farms of all kinds, of which the most are mixed farms.
Expanding rubber acreage is Tan Ky's policy in the coming years.
From correctly identifying the role of farm economy, in recent years, along with the State's mechanism, Tan Ky has encouraged and oriented people to form specialized and concentrated farm economic zones, such as: rubber in Nghia Hoan, Tan Phu, Tan Xuan, Tan Hop; planting raw material forests in Nghia Thai, Tan Huong, Giai Xuan, Dong Van, Tien Ky...; planting raw material sugarcane in Tan Hop, Dong Van, Nghia Phuc, Giai Xuan..., attracting many people to boldly invest in expanding and developing farm economy. Among more than 300 farms in Tan Ky, the majority of farm owners are farmers, of which ethnic minorities account for nearly 25%.
Developing farm economy is a suitable direction for Tan Ky, really bringing practical efficiency in both economy and society. From farm economy, farmers accumulate capital, experience in management, production, and accumulate land. On the other hand, from farm economy, a new division of labor has been created, narrowing the gap between rich and poor, promoting the process of industrialization of agriculture and rural areas, at the same time from farm economy, farmers have the conditions to access and apply scientific and technical advances in livestock breeding and production. From there, the Provincial People's Committee also needs to have a mechanism suitable to reality so that the farm economy has the conditions to develop in quantity and quality.
With economic development policies and orientations suitable to local conditions, it is hoped that Tan Ky will achieve socio-economic development goals in the coming years, and this is also a favorable condition for localities to implement the roadmap for new rural construction.
