Patient Th. had a history of left ureteral stones causing hydronephrosis, and had undergone retrograde endoscopic lithotripsy 3 years ago. This time, Ms. Th. was admitted to the hospital with pain in the left lumbar region, continuous pain, long-lasting dull pain, pain radiating to the lower abdomen and genitals, and a mild fever. Through the examination combined with test results, ultrasound and CT scan showed that the left kidney was very large, the parenchyma was very thin, the fluid was not uniform, the renal pelvis was dilated grade III, and the ureter was dilated 15mm. The results of the UIV scan (urinary system with contrast agent) showed that the left kidney was completely dysfunctional with hydronephrosis, and the right kidney was normal in size and function.

Dr. Thai Doan Cong - Head of Surgery Department, Cua Dong General Hospital, who directly performed the surgery, said:The outstanding advantage of laparoscopic nephrectomy is that it is minimally invasive. The surgery is performed through small incisions on the abdominal wall, so it is less painful than conventional open surgery. In addition, this surgery is also considered safe, bringing many benefits to patients during treatment and recovery, maintaining the patient's quality of life. Although it is considered safe, this technique still has potential risks.
