Laparoscopic cholecystectomy – the 'golden' choice in treating uncomplicated gallbladder
(Baonghean.vn) - Gallbladder stones are a common disease that can occur in anyone. Most patients have no symptoms and are often discovered by chance during routine health check-ups, or when the stones cause acute pain.
Patient HT H, 60 years old in Lang Son commune, Anh Son district, has had gallstones for many years. Recently, he often had pain in the right hypochondrium and epigastric region, so he visited Vinh International Hospital for examination.
Here, the ultrasound results confirmed that the patient had 2 gallstones, d = 8 mm and d = 7 mm. The best treatment option is laparoscopic cholecystectomy to completely remove the gallstones.

The surgery lasted 45 minutes. The patient lay supine, anesthetized with endotracheal intubation. Placed 3 trocars: 10 mm at the umbilicus and epigastrium, 1 trocar 5 mm at the right hypochondrium, performed abdominal examination and observed that the gallbladder was slightly distended, no inflammation, the common bile duct was not dilated. Dissected to expose the artery and cystic duct, clamped and cut the artery and cystic duct. Cut the gallbladder off the bed, removed the gallbladder from the abdomen through the umbilical trocar, stopped bleeding, checked other organs for abnormalities, withdrew and closed the trocar holes.

After surgery, the patient is alert, recovers quickly, and can be discharged after 4 days. The doctor also notes that some cases may have digestive disorders after surgery such as indigestion, diarrhea, etc. However, these symptoms will gradually disappear after about 1 month. Therefore, a reasonable diet, limiting fat and in the early period after surgery is very important.

According to Doctor CKI Phan Van Giao - Department of General Surgery, up to 80% of gallstone cases have no obvious symptoms.
If gallstones are asymptomatic and do not cause much pain to the patient, surgery is not necessary. Indications for laparoscopic cholecystectomy include: symptomatic gallstones, large gallbladder polyps (> 10 mm), polyps plus gallstones, gallbladder adenopathy, gallstones with a history of acute pancreatitis, etc.
When typical symptoms such as right flank pain appear, it is also when the gallstones have caused complications. Therefore, regardless of the size of the gallstones, they should be treated early to achieve high efficiency and avoid dangerous complications that may occur.
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is an effective method, successfully applied and treated for many patients with many outstanding advantages:
· Small incision, minimal invasion, ensuring aesthetics
· Minimizes pain, low rate of complications and accidents
· Fast recovery time
