Demilitarization, Neutrality, Acceptance of Territorial Status: The Best Peace Conditions for Ukraine
(Baonghean.vn) - French economist Jacques Sapir, in an article published in Front Populaire, commented that analysts called for an end to the conflict in Ukraine, and advised Kiev to accept conditions such as: giving up territory, maintaining neutrality, and demilitarization.

RT quoted French economist Jacques Sapir as saying that calls for a ceasefire in Ukraine were heard across the Western press. He said that, given the scale of the human and material disaster, those calls must have strength.
However, the idea of peace negotiations seems to be unacceptable to both Russia and Ukraine. To break the deadlock, Sapir advises Kiev to focus on the experience of Finland during the 1940 Winter War with the Soviet Union, and World War II. According to Sapir, the Scandinavian country faced territorial losses, but in return they were able to maintain sovereignty and ensure economic prosperity.
Predicting a similar future for Ukraine, French economist Jacques Sapir outlined a number of conditions that must be met.
First, Ukraine must agree to give up territories currently controlled by Russia.
Second, the country must become neutral, refusing to join NATO and the EU; and the use of the Russian language on an equal footing with Ukrainian must be enshrined in the Constitution. Finally, Kiev must maintain some form of demilitarization, which could be offset by a mutual defense pact between Ukraine, Germany, France and Poland.
“The nationalist faction of the current Ukrainian government finds it difficult to accept these terms. But what other option is there? An endless conflict with ever-increasing casualties?” - Sapir noted. He believes that the option of continuing the conflict is becoming less and less feasible, as NATO's reserves are depleted, and now the "sponsors" are tired of Kiev.
According to this expert, military talks between Russia and NATO should be added to those between Russia and Ukraine, aiming to achieve a stable ceasefire. This would lead to a new security treaty in Europe, with restrictions on the deployment of weapons by both sides.
Political negotiations must be held between Russia and the EU, or key EU countries such as Germany, France, Italy, Poland, to redefine acceptable relations in accordance with international law. The French economist believes that this will require the lifting of certain sanctions and the resumption of economic, cultural and social relations.
Expert Sapir said that the conflict in Ukraine “is the most serious crisis since the end of the Cold War”.Its effective solution cannot be achieved by a simple ceasefire and a “freeze” of military operations. The expert warned that “the sooner the ruling elites in Europe realize this, the better for them”./.
