Localities must urgently install speed limit warning signs, warning of icy, slippery roads, etc.

To limit and prevent traffic accidents that may occur when road users travel on icy and snowy roads, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc requested the Ministry of Transport to direct the installation of temporary signs to warn road users and issue temporary instructions on ensuring traffic safety in icy and snowy road conditions.

In recent days, due to the influence of very strong cold air that has been continuously strengthening, a widespread cold spell has occurred in the Northern and North Central provinces. Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc - Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee requested the Ministry of Transport to direct the Vietnam Road Administration and the Departments of Transport of provinces and cities to: Urgently conduct inspections and review of traffic safety conditions on roads, install warning signs to reduce speed, warn of icy, slippery roads; arrange forces and vehicles to handle ice and snow on the road surface; instruct and remind drivers to maintain a safe distance and turn on their headlights.

Issue temporary instructions on ensuring traffic safety in conditions of snow and ice on the road surface; rules for safe traffic participation in conditions of snowfall or ice and snow-covered roads; principles for ensuring technical safety of vehicles when participating in traffic in cold climate conditions and ice and snow-covered roads.

Police of provinces and cities increase forces to coordinate with the Traffic Inspectorate, arrange to be on duty on key traffic routes, sections with complex terrain, steep slopes in harsh weather conditions, rain, snow, ice and snow-covered roads.

Press agencies should step up propaganda to warn of traffic safety risks; disseminate to drivers of road vehicles the rules for safe traffic participation in snowy conditions or on icy or snow-covered roads. Propaganda and mobilize people to limit traffic participation in harsh and extreme weather conditions.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc also sent his condolences to the family of Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Hinh, Traffic Police Department, Dien Bien Provincial Police, who sacrificed his life while on duty to clear traffic congestion caused by freezing and harsh weather on Pha Din Pass (at km365 + 500 of National Highway 6)./.
