According to RIA Novosti on April 8, Fortune magazine reported citing sources close to discussions about the lawsuit, the US Chamber of Commerce is considering filing a lawsuit against the administration of US President Donald Trump to prevent the implementation of new import tariffs.

“The largest lobbying force of American corporations, the Chamber of Commerce, is considering filing a lawsuit against the Trump administration to block the president from imposing new tariffs, scheduled to take effect on April 9,” Fortune reported.

According to the publication, the US Chamber of Commerce may argue that President Trump's use of emergency powers to impose tariffs is illegal.

Fortune reports that some of the organization’s largest members are calling for a lawsuit. Sources also say other organizations may join the Chamber’s lawsuit.

Meanwhile, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in an interview with Fox News that the US has imposed maximum tariffs on imported goods, but the administration hopes to reduce these tariffs through negotiations with partners.

"We are at maximum tariffs. I hope that through good negotiations we will be able to achieve the target of reducing tariffs," Mr. Bessent said.

The prospects for tariff reductions will depend on other countries, the Treasury Secretary added, adding that nearly 70 countries have expressed interest in negotiating tariffs.

“So April, May and probably June are going to be very stressful,” the US Treasury chief said.

On April 2, the US President signed an executive order imposing “reciprocal” tariffs on imports from other countries, calling it “liberation”. The basic minimum tariff rate will be 10%, and for goods from the European Union it will be 20%. The US President promised to collect $6,000-7,000 billion from tariffs.
