The moment of crime of the father defending his son, beating his neighbor to death
His son went to cause trouble and was beaten by a group of people in the boarding house. Mr. Luong intervened and then took a bamboo stick and hit a young man on the head, causing his death.
In the afternoon of April 19, Mr. Huynh Van Luong (46 years old, from Tra Vinh) sat quietly in the dock waiting for the verdict of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court on the charge of Murder. Sitting next to him, his son, Huynh Trung Ngoc (19 years old), who was prosecuted for causing public disorder, only bowed his head, looking remorseful. Because of his small conflict with a group of young men in the boarding house, both father and son were in trouble with the law.

Late on November 10, 2015, after a drinking party, Ngoc returned to his rented room in Tan Kien commune, Binh Chanh district. When passing by the room of Nguyen Hoai An and Vu Tri Tuan, Ngoc heard these people loudly swearing. Thinking they were cursing him, Ngoc ran to call his cousin and his friends to come and beat them up in revenge.
On the way home, Ngoc picked up a bamboo stick and rushed into An's room to beat him. Using a chair to block the attack, An and the people in the room dragged Ngoc out to beat her when Ms. Oanh - Ngoc's mother in the next room ran out to stop them.
Ngoc threw away the bamboo stick and ran outside, calling his cousin and his friends to pick up rocks to throw at their opponent. Angry, An and Tuan grabbed beer bottles and threw them back, then chased and beat Ngoc.
Mrs. Oanh ran over to shield her son from the blows. An picked up a bamboo stick and was about to hit him again when his younger sister Ngoc came and grabbed it back. Seeing the group of young men beating their son, the struggle caused the girl to fall onto the street, Mr. Luong ran out and grabbed the bamboo stick from An's hand, hitting the young man and causing him to run away.
At this time, Tuan picked up a piece of wood and hit Mr. Luong in the back, but Mr. Luong hit him in the head with a stick, knocking him unconscious. He was taken to the emergency room by his relatives but died.
Brought to trial, Mr. Luong admitted his guilt. "In a moment of lack of control, I caused the victim's death. I apologize to the victim's family and hope the court will consider reducing my sentence," defendant Luong said. Ngoc also expressed remorse and apologized to the victim's family.
The court found that Mr. Luong’s actions had caused particularly serious consequences. However, the defendant confessed honestly, had partially compensated for the damage, and his family had contributed to the revolution. The panel sentenced him to 10 years in prison for murder. The court also ordered him to pay 140 million VND in compensation and monthly child support to the victim’s child.
Sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison for disturbing public order, Ngoc had his responsibility reduced by the court because he was underage at the time of the crime. In relation to the case, 3 other defendants received sentences ranging from 9 months (suspended) to 1 year in prison for the same crime./.
