Overcoming Messi and Suarez, Ronaldo sets new record at FIFA Club World Cup
The goal against Al-Jazera gave Ronaldo a new scoring record in FIFA club competitions.
Before the 2017 FIFA Club World Cup semi-final, Ronaldo had five goals in the tournament, the same as Messi and Luis Suarez. With the latest goal, CR7 surpassed his two Barca colleagues to hold the record.
Before setting the record, Ronaldo had been denied many chances to score by goalkeeper Ali Khaseif. It was not until Ali Khaseif was injured and left the field that the Real star found the net of Al-Jazera with a diagonal shot that beat the substitute goalkeeper Al Senani.

Ronaldo started scoring at the FIFA Club World Cup when he scored for Man Utd in 2009. In 2016, CR7 added one goal in the semi-final and three goals in the final.
After beating Al-Jazira 2-1 in this year's semi-final, Real will face Gremio in the final on December 16. Gremio beat Pachuca in another semi-final earlier.
The FIFA Club World Cup is an annual tournament for continental champions at club level. Al-Jazira represented the host UAE, but reached the semi-finals by defeating Asian champions Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan) in the quarter-finals.
