Strong management of centralized livestock slaughter
(Baonghean) -To meet the requirements of a green - clean - beautiful Vinh city, the city has had innovative policies in planning, supporting investment in centralized slaughterhouse systems, and supporting slaughter costs for livestock owners.
Present at the centralized livestock slaughterhouse (GSTT) of Truong Lan Company Limited in Hamlet 5, Nghi Phu Commune (Vinh City) at the time when many slaughterhouse owners were actively transporting each truckload of pigs into the facility to enter the barn, preparing for slaughter. Mr. Nguyen Van Huan - Hamlet 7, Nghi Phu Commune, the owner of the slaughterhouse, said: "Previously, slaughtering pigs at home was cramped, I didn't know where to dispose of waste, I could only slaughter 1-2 pigs per day. For nearly 2 years now, I have registered to slaughter pigs at the company, the cost is 20,000 VND/pig, we are assured because the livestock area is separate, there is a hot water system, and tools to ensure food hygiene after slaughter, so every day I buy and slaughter 5-7 pigs, import meat to sell at Moi Dau market, thereby increasing my family's income 2 to 3 times compared to before.

The GSTT slaughterhouse of Truong Lan Company Limited currently has 33 households registered for regular slaughtering and dozens of households participating in seasonal slaughtering, with a quantity of 200-300 pigs/night, the output of live pigs sold each night reaches over 12 tons". Mr. Nguyen Van Truong, Director of Truong Lan Company Limited, said: "In 2013, we invested in and managed the GSTT slaughterhouse project with an investment cost of 1.5 billion VND, the city supported 250 million VND. We built a system of boiler lines to bring hot water to the slaughterhouses, a drainage system, and weekly cleaning of septic tanks, treatment tanks and ponds in the fence. Spraying disinfectants to sterilize the environment once a week with high-tech Japanese electrolyzed water. To encourage people to bring their livestock to slaughterhouses, in the first 6 months of 2015, we will provide free slaughterhouse services for households that register for slaughter.

Mr. Nguyen Van Toan, Vice Chairman of Nghi Phu Commune People's Committee, said: Determining that mobilizing people to bring livestock to the GSTT slaughterhouse is an extremely necessary task, the commune has mobilized and even forced households to slaughter livestock at the slaughterhouse. Coordinated supervision and confiscated tools for households that still slaughter livestock at home. Currently, the whole commune has 2 GSTT slaughterhouses attracting over 100 households to regularly practice the profession, the output of pork, buffalo, and beef accounts for 60% of the total output supplied to the city's market. The slaughterhouses have solved environmental problems well.
According to statistics, Vinh City currently has over 260 households engaged in the slaughtering of cattle in Nghi Phu, Hung Loc, Hung Chinh, Hung Dung, Vinh Tan, Ben Thuy, Nghi Kim, Nghi Duc... The average slaughtering demand is 662 pigs and 70 buffaloes and cows/day and night. In recent years, the number of households slaughtering livestock in centralized slaughterhouses has decreased significantly.
To overcome these difficulties, in 2011, Vinh City People's Committee issued the Project "Management and centralized slaughter of livestock in Vinh City". The project's objective is to manage epidemics and create clean and safe food for people. Mr. Nguyen Chi Thong, Deputy Head of the Economic Department, Vinh City People's Committee, said: In the first 7 months of 2015, the city mobilized over 39,000 livestock to slaughter at centralized slaughterhouses, including over 34,000 pigs and nearly 5,000 buffaloes and cows. Business households unanimously supported the city's policies and methods.
Mr. Ngo Duc Quynh, Deputy of the Provincial Veterinary Department, added: In the first 6 months of 2015, the interdisciplinary inspection team handled 6 households slaughtering livestock in the Moi Dau market area for selling meat products without quarantine stamps, administratively fined over 20 million VND. Most recently, in early September 2015, the interdisciplinary inspection team administratively fined Ms. Nguyen Thi Giang in hamlet 7, Nghi Phu commune 5 million VND for slaughtering and trading 150 kg of pork without slaughter control stamps and veterinary hygiene stamps.
