Many tourists have confidently come to Cua Lo and Cua Hoi tourist beaches to swim and eat seafood.

Although Nghe An is outside the area affected by the fish deaths, to stabilize the psychology as well as ensure the health and safety of people and tourists swimming in the sea and using seafood, on May 3, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment sent an urgent dispatch to relevant agencies and localities from Thanh Hoa to Quang Nam.

Accordingly, the Ministry established a marine environmental monitoring team in the central coastal area from Thanh Hoa to Quang Nam. Units and agencies will immediately conduct marine environmental monitoring from May 4, 2016.

Monitoring of coastal and nearshore seawater (from shore to 24 nautical miles) will be increased to twice a day. Monitoring of offshore seawater samples (from 24 nautical miles and above) will be at least twice a week. Monitoring of bottom sediments and marine life will be once a week.

Currently, at Cua Lo, Cua Hoi and Quynh Phuong beaches, tourists can feel secure swimming and eating seafood. “Before, when I heard about the sea pollution causing fish deaths, I was also afraid to go swimming and eating seafood. But then I learned that Nghe An beach is outside the affected area and many people can still eat seafood safely, so I took my family to Cua Lo to rest,” said Nguyen The Anh (residing in Vinh City, Nghe An).

Nghe An province and Cua Lo town regularly send interdisciplinary working groups to inspect and tighten seafood supply sources, food safety and hygiene, and protect the marine environment and consumers.

Recently, Cua Lo town has welcomed 160,000 visitors, of which more than 50,000 stayed overnight. Since the opening of the 2016 beach tourism season, there have been no cases of seafood poisoning or food poisoning recorded at the two major tourist beaches of Nghe An, Cua Lo and Cua Hoi.
