Quang Liem lost the top spot in the Asian Chess Championship
Despite having the advantage of holding the white pieces, Le Quang Liem could not defeat Ghaem Maghami in the fifth game of the Asian Chess Championship, falling to second place.

At the Asian Championship taking place in Uzbekistan, Quang Liem is the player with the highest elo coefficient, 2,718. The Vietnamese player won all the first three games, but in the fourth game, he was held back by Wen Wang (elo 2,611). In the fifth game taking place on May 30, he continued to miss the opportunity to create a gap with his opponents when he was held to a draw by Ghaem Maghami (elo 2,551) despite having the advantage of holding the white pieces.
This draw caused Quang Liem to lose his top spot. He has four points, the same as Gao Rui of China (elo 2,556), but is inferior in the secondary index. Today, in the sixth game, the Vietnamese player will play black, facing Sethuraman SP (elo 2,647), who also has four points.
Also yesterday, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son (elo 2,636) holding the black pieces lost to Gao Rui (elo 2,556). This result caused the Vietnamese player to drop to 35th place with three points after five games.
In the women's category, Nguyen Thi Mai Hung (elo 2,276) and Hoang Thi Bao Tram (elo 2,263) both held the black pieces, and lost to Kulkarni Bhakti (elo 2,296) and Tokhirjonova Gulrukhbegim (elo 2,390) respectively.
Mai Hung currently has 3.5 points after five games, ranking third in the women's group. Bao Tram is 0.5 points behind, ranking 10th.
