Que Phong directed to prevent traders from purchasing yellow Camellia tree roots
(Baonghean.vn) - Faced with the phenomenon of people going into the forest to dig up medicinal plant roots called Camellia sinensis to sell to traders, the People's Committee of Que Phong district has directed to prevent this situation.

The direction of the People's Committee of Que Phong district is shown in Official Dispatch No. 284/UBND-NN dated March 27, 2017 sent to the People's Committees of communes and towns; departments, units and related forest owners in the area on the management and protection of the Golden Camellia tree.

Official dispatch No. 284 clearly stated that currently in some communes, there has been a phenomenon of some people going into the forest to dig up roots and cut down Camellia japonica trees to sell to small traders, affecting the conservation of seed sources and the development of Camellia japonica trees and some other medicinal plants, especially affecting the income of each family in the area where Camellia japonica trees are grown.
To promptly prevent the above phenomenon, the District People's Committee requests the Chairmen of the People's Committees of communes and towns, Forest Owners and related units to properly implement the following contents:
Implementing Decision No. 204/QD-UBND dated April 11, 2016 of the District People's Committee on approving the Project on conservation and development of medicinal plants of high economic value for the period 2016 - 2020; Official Dispatch No. 1348/UBND-NN dated December 30, 2016 of the District People's Committee on strengthening the management and protection of medicinal plants.
Strengthen propaganda and mobilize people not to go into the forest to dig up roots and cut down yellow tea trees to sell to traders, affecting the conservation and development of yellow tea trees according to the Project on conservation and development of medicinal plants with high economic value in the period 2016 - 2020 of the district.
Conduct timely inspections and prevent the purchase and sale of Camellia sinensis roots and trees in communes and towns to take measures to remind and strictly handle organizations and individuals who violate the Law on Forest Protection and Development and State regulations.

Conduct propaganda meetings, mobilize people to sign a commitment not to dig up roots, cut down and take other destructive actions against medicinal plants in general and Camellia sinensis in particular.
Also in Official Dispatch 284, the People's Committee of Que Phong district directed the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the District Forest Protection Department to regularly inspect, urge, remind and direct communes and forest owners with medicinal plants, especially yellow tea trees, to strengthen management and protection; the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development shall take the lead in coordinating with relevant units to urgently survey and advise the District People's Committee to develop a specific plan to preserve and develop yellow tea trees and some other medicinal plants in the area.
