Nghe An is seizing the great opportunities from e-commerce.

In Nghe An province, e-commerce is developing rapidly, and modern technical infrastructure along with comprehensive support tools have made transactions convenient for both businesses and consumers.

The e-commerce trend is developing rapidly.

According to information from the Department of Industry and Trade, the Nghe An e-commerce trading platform has so far supported more than 470 businesses and traders in registering as members and setting up online stores, attracting over 9.2 million visits; introducing and offering 3,723 products and services, ranking 5th nationwide in the number of agricultural products and Vietnamese goods in the province listed on the platform. Over 70% of businesses have applied digital platforms in their transactions.

From 2021 to the present, the Department of Industry and Trade has implemented numerous activities to connect supply and demand, facilitate trade, establish Vietnamese product sales points, and organize Vietnamese product fairs for producers and businesses in the area. It has organized trade connection conferences; conferences connecting customers, distributors, and convenience food stores with producers to sell agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products, as well as OCOP products from Nghe An province; and conferences connecting regional agricultural product consumption in Nghe An to introduce nearly 300 businesses to connect with supermarket chains, distributors, and wholesalers nationwide, such as Winmart+, Go Vinh Supermarket, MM Mega Market, Lotte, BRG, Tu Son - An Giang, Wincomecer, OCOP Vietnam Trading Company Limited, AEON, etc.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hiep, Head of the Trade Management Department of the Department of Industry and Trade, said: The Department has directed its units and agencies to connect and introduce relevant agencies and units to participate in over 40 trade promotion programs and events, connecting supply and demand of goods with provinces and cities nationwide; participating in 73 trade fairs and conferences connecting trade and supply and demand inside and outside the province, introducing and connecting the consumption of products of more than 600 businesses and production facilities in markets inside and outside the province.

The Department of Industry and Trade also supports the provision of information and the listing of Vietnamese products in the province on e-commerce platforms. To date, the Nghe An E-commerce Platform has supported more than 470 businesses and traders in registering as members and setting up online stores; attracting over 9.2 million visits; and introducing and offering 3,723 products and services. By the end of 2023, the number of agricultural households in Nghe An listed on e-commerce platforms was 266,373, with a total of 7,653 products listed, ranking 5th nationwide in terms of the number of agricultural products and Vietnamese goods in the province listed on the platform.

After two years of implementing the Market 4.0 model, 31 markets/streets with 4,313 sales points have been equipped with QR codes. On average, 20,000 transactions are processed monthly, with over 20 billion VND exchanged through Viettel Money QR code scanning (an average of 15 million VND per point). In addition, cashless payment methods have been widely implemented by banks and are now quite common, reaching businesses, schools, and other establishments. Cashless payments allow consumers to experience and access modern payment methods, stimulating shopping activity.

Building a product distribution chain.

With the involvement of the Department of Industry and Trade, Nghe An currently has 124 out of 403 OCOP products; 27 out of 96 typical rural industrial products, including agricultural products and processed agricultural products, have entered supply chain systems such as BigC, MM Mega Market, Lotte, Bach Hoa Xanh, Aeon, Maxi Mart… and food and grocery store systems.

The Department of Industry and Trade has also grasped the situation, connecting localities, organizations, and units to support the consumption of OCOP products, typical industrial and rural products, and agricultural products in the province. It has facilitated the consumption of Ky Son green pumpkins, Do Luong lemons, Anh Son pomelos, and processed agricultural products participating in the Fruit Festival in Hanoi; and organized trade activities in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hue, and the provinces of Lang Son, Thai Binh, Gia Lai, etc.

As a result, support has been provided to several businesses and production facilities to ensure stable annual product consumption, such as: Nghe An Clean Vegetable Company, with approximately 7,000 tons of various vegetables, tubers, and fruits, and 300-400 tons of seafood, distributing to 45 provinces and cities nationwide; Pu Mat Medicinal Herbs Joint Stock Company, consuming 120,000 boxes of products, distributed through 120 agents in 36 provinces and cities nationwide; 3 veal sausage production facilities (Minh Hien, Duc Tuan, Chung Tai) with stable consumption of 200-250 tons of finished products, mainly distributing goods in provinces from Central and Northern Vietnam through e-commerce platforms and Facebook; Binh An Agricultural Service Cooperative, consuming 15-20 tons of finished turmeric starch and kudzu starch, mainly distributed to 30 agents in 18 provinces and cities in the Northern region. Luong Son rice paper production facility sells 8.0 - 10 million products, distributed through 300 dealers in 30 provinces and cities; Hoang Nhat Phat Co., Ltd. sells 50,000-60,000 products, mainly distributed through 40 large and small dealers in 15 provinces and cities…

Mr. Pham Van Hoa, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, stated: In the coming period, to promote the application of information technology and digital transformation in trade promotion activities, the Department of Industry and Trade will strengthen activities connecting supply and demand, expanding the market for agricultural products, and focusing on effectively exploiting the domestic market. It will also intensify propaganda and guidance for businesses to leverage the advantages of new-generation free trade agreements to expand export and import markets, diversify partners and sources of goods; prioritize export promotion activities for strong product lines with high added value and new export items. Simultaneously, it will implement diverse and effective trade promotion methods suitable for each product line, market, and target group. It will guide and support businesses to proactively participate in the deep processing value chain with certified, branded, and high-added-value goods.

“We continue to promote the implementation of e-commerce connectivity activities, supporting businesses in applying e-commerce in product distribution and consumption. We are effectively deploying information technology platforms for trade promotion activities to meet the requirements of trade promotion in the new situation and enhance competitiveness. We are implementing new forms of trade promotion through the online environment, digital transformation, and effectively participating in the digital trade promotion ecosystem,” the leader of the Department of Industry and Trade emphasized.

In 2024, the estimated total retail sales of goods will reach 110,000 billion VND; the average annual growth rate for the period 2021-2024 is 12.58%, the target set by the congress; and for the period 2021-2025: 11-12% per year.
