“Smart license plate”is a high-tech product that is being tested on cars running on the streets of Dubai. This is not just a digital screen that displays license plates but also has the ability to locate GPS, communicate and many other smart functions.
According to Mr. Sultan Bbaulah al-Marzouqi - Director of the License Plate Department of Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), this product will make life much easier for Dubai drivers.
If a vehicle is involved in a collision, the license plate will automatically call the police and ambulance, and can also contact other vehicles and drivers to inform them of traffic conditions on the spot, such as traffic jams or accidents. If the vehicle or driver's license is stolen, the content displayed on the smart license plate will also change, and the license plate will automatically notify the police. In addition, the smart license plate will automatically pay fines, parking fees, or license tax of the vehicle owner by deducting money from the account.
The product's trial will end in November this year, and pricing will be revealed then.
