The European Super Cup match on the evening of August 9 was a real chase that kept viewers excited until the last minutes. As the better team, Real opened the scoring early but then disappointed with two consecutive goals. When Sevilla was only one minute away from victory, center back Sergio Ramos made the white team's fans burst into joy with a header to tie the score at 2-2. As an inevitable consequence of a comeback, Real dominated the game and won in two extra periods. In the 119th minute, defender Carvajal dribbled past three players before scoring the winning goal to make it 3-2.
Thanks to a dramatic chase with Sevilla, Real won the European Super Cup for the third time in their history. The Spanish Royal team won the previous two times in 2002 and 2014. Real lost twice in 1998 and 2000.
Meanwhile, the defeat on the evening of August 9th pushed Sevilla into an unprecedented streak of losing three consecutive European Super Cup matches. The previous two times, this team lost 0-2 to Real in 2014 and lost 4-5 to Barca in 2015. Sevilla also lost once in 2007, in addition to their only title win a year earlier.
According to experts, Real's victory this year is somewhat fragile but will likely receive praise. In the preparation for the match, coach Zinedine Zidane did not have the services of a series of pillars such as Ronaldo (injured), Bale, Pepe, Toni Kroos (not yet recovered after Euro). To avoid risks, this coach even only put Benzema and Modric on the field at the end of the second half, when Sevilla was approaching victory.
Zidane's faith in the young players was partly correct. In the early stages of the match, Real's patchwork squad played better than Sevilla. In the 21st minute, 20-year-old Marco Asensio even had a beautiful long-range shot to open the scoring.

Compared to Real, Sevilla's squad appeared more balanced. This was also a strength that the Europa League champions took full advantage of in the middle of the match. In the 41st minute, Franco Vazquez skillfully shot the ball through the narrow space between two Real defenders to equalize 1-1. In this situation, goalkeeper Kiko Casilla seemed to be blinded and could not react in time to save the goal. In the 72nd minute, Sevilla once again surprised with Konoplyanka's penalty to increase the score to 2-1. Before that, center-back Ramos committed a foul in the penalty area, leading to the referee's decision to award a penalty.
Only when they were behind did Real really show their strength. The presence of Benzema, Modric and James quickly helped the Champions League champions regain the upper hand on the pitch. With a bit of luck, Real equalized in the third minute of injury time. Just like in the 2014 Champions League final, Ramos joined the attack and equalized with his signature header.
Real's equalizer 2-2 really played a turning point in the match. In the two extra periods, the situation changed so quickly that fans of both teams could hardly recognize it. From having the advantage in the 90 minutes of play, Sevilla soon fell into a disadvantageous position due to losing a man (Kolo received a second yellow card in the 93rd minute. In the dominant position, Real had a series of scoring opportunities, including Ramos putting the ball into Sevilla's net but it was disallowed in the 101st minute. In the 119th minute, when the opponent was waiting for a penalty shootout, right-back Carvajal made an excellent solo effort to make the score 3-2.
With the victory in the European Super Cup, Real has won the second title in 2016 after the Champions League. This is a favorable start for Zidane and his team to enter the La Liga season at the end of this month.
