Military plane crash in the US, at least 5 people died
At least five people were killed and four others are missing after a US C-130 "Hercules" military aircraft crashed near Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport in Georgia this morning, May 3 (Vietnam time).
ABC news agency quoted a US Air Force spokesman as saying that the crashed plane was a WC-130 weather reconnaissance aircraft belonging to the Puerto Rico National Guard.

The plane crashed shortly after taking off from Savannah/Hilton Head Airport en route to Arizona for a routine training mission.
According to a Puerto Rican government official, the plane was carrying nine people at the time of the crash. Authorities predict that no one survived the incident.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Highway 21 and Crossgate Street, northeast of the Savannah airport, Chatham Emergency Management said. Roads are currently closed. Power is also out in the area.

All traffic in the area is at a standstill as the railway tracks were destroyed by the accident.

Luckily, no cars were hit when the plane crashed, which was a "miracle" at that time of day, according to Gena Bilbo, public information officer for the Effingham County Sheriff's Office.

Airport staff are assisting local authorities with rescue efforts at the scene. Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport said the accident did not impact air traffic operations at the facility.
