On the eve of the New Year of the Rooster, “The taste of Tet in my hometown” is a theme that many schools in the district organize with diverse activities such as performing arts, club activities, charity, sales, etc. Especially in culinary activities, students can show off their skills in making dishes with traditional Tet flavors such as wrapping banh chung, banh tet, banh ngot, candied eggplant, pickled vegetables, etc.

Each grade level, depending on their age, is organized to make different types of cakes, candies, and dishes. Teacher Nguyen Thi Hong, Head of the Youth Union of Luu Son Primary School, said that at this school, students from grades 3 to 5 are allowed to participate in culinary experiences. Grade 3 students get acquainted with boiled tubers and fruits such as sweet potatoes, taro, and yams. Grade 4 students are organized to make coconut jam, salads, and pickles. Grade 5 students make banh chung, candied eggplant, etc.

According to Ms. Hong, last year, Luu Son Primary School also organized a culinary experience program to familiarize themselves with traditional local cakes, but not on a large scale or as systematically as it is now. Students here were excited about the practical experience program "Taste of Tet in my hometown" and when participating, they often brought many kinds of vegetables, tubers, and fruits, which are agricultural products of their families, to use as ingredients for processing. With the same theme of Lunar New Year, each school organized with its own creativity, but all were bustling and joyful like a festival.

In each class, there will be 1 teacher and 2 parents to guide the children to make cakes and candies for Tet. The students will learn, work, and show each other how to wrap cakes, make candies, cook, fry, grill, and then arrange the dishes on the table with their class name on it. After completion, the school will have a panel of judges to score, commend the classes that cook well, decorate well, and give souvenirs to the students.
