Inviting a high school girl to go out, sentenced to 40 months in prison
15-year-old girl ran away from home and gave her virginity to a boyfriend she met on social media.
On September 21, the Hanoi People's Court opened an appeal hearing to consider the appeal to increase the sentence and compensation of the family of Nhai, the victim in the child sex case.
According to the first instance verdict at the end of July of the People's Court of Son Tay town, in November 2016, To Manh Giap (23 years old, living in Phu Thinh ward) met a 15-year-old female student, a junior high school student, through social networks.
After a month of texting back and forth and proposing love, Giap was accepted by this girl. On December 9, 2016, Giap texted Nhai to come to Son Tay town to play with him and the "little" lover agreed.

That same afternoon, Nhai took a taxi from Thach That district (Hanoi) to Son Tay town to meet Giap. There, Giap took his girlfriend for a walk around the town. That night, his parents were not home, so Giap persuaded his girlfriend to stay the night.
That night, this young woman gave her virginity to Giap. After staying in Son Tay town for a few more days, on December 12, Nhai was taken home by her lover on a motorbike taxi.
Meanwhile, after many days of their daughter leaving home to go out, her parents asked her and found out that Nhai had been raped by Giap. The girl's family reported Giap's actions.
The court of first instance sentenced Giap to 30 months in prison for the crime of Sexual Intercourse with a Child. The victim’s family appealed, arguing that the sentence was not a sufficient deterrent for the defendant and that his actions were rape.
At the appeal hearing, Giap confessed his actions. The representative of Nhai's family said that the defendant had had sexual intercourse with his daughter many times.
After questioning and investigating his background, the panel of judges found that in 2012 and 2013, To Van Giap had been sentenced to prison twice for the crimes of Fraudulent appropriation of property and Sexual intercourse with children. This crime was a repeat offense, so the appellate court accepted part of the appeal of the victim's family and sentenced Giap to 40 months in prison for the crime of Sexual intercourse with children.
