The Polynesian government has signed a memorandum of understanding with the American company as the country faces rising sea levels. They are also studying the economic and environmental impacts as well as legal issues related to the floating city, according to Sputnik.
Randolph Hencken, executive director of The Seasteading Institute, believes the Polynesian floating city, which consists of 118 islands, will benefit the Polynesian government economically. "We believe it will benefit them both directly and indirectly economically," he said.

According to plan, the project will start construction in 2019. |
With the threat of rising sea levels in Polynesia, the idea of a floating city has attracted much attention and high hopes from the government. The initial impact study has been completed and the company hopes to complete the legal procedures this year. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2019.
There is currently no specific information about the cost of building a floating city, but the high cost of underwater construction techniques is considered a major obstacle to this project.
