After dredging, 70 more boats can anchor at Lach Quen Fishing Port.
(Baonghean.vn) - Lach Quen Port in Tien Thuy and Quynh Thuan communes has just been licensed by Quynh Luu district to implement a dredging project to expand the port. It is expected that about 70 more ships will be able to safely anchor at the port during the rainy season.
Quynh Luu is a district with a large number of boats in the province, with more than 1,300 vehicles. However, during the annual rainy and stormy season, only about 80% of the boats can find safe anchorage at the two ports of Lach Quen and Lach Thoi; the remaining 20% of the boats must anchor in other localities.
The condition of the canal is increasingly narrow due to silt, along with the rapid increase in the number of boats. In early 2018, Quynh Luu district approved the dredging project to expand Quen canal on the southern bank of Quynh Thuan commune, bringing good news to fishermen.

Accordingly, the construction unit will dredge and upgrade the southern lock of Lach Quen port with a width of 13,000m.2, including dredging the channel 5m deep from the shore, building 20 mooring pillars, and embanking more than 100m of the shore with cement to prevent erosion. The project cost is about 3 billion VND. The company will invest in expanding the port and recover capital from providing fishing logistics services for ships and boats entering and leaving to anchor.
"Currently, the project is dredging the riverbed, expected to be completed by the end of April 2018. The project, when put into use, will create conditions for about 70 vehicles of Quynh Long commune to anchor, transport seafood as well as safely take shelter from storms" - Mr. Tran Huy Hoang, Director of Quynh Thuan Commune Maritime Logistics Company Limited said.

Mr. Dau Duc Nam - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quynh Luu district said: Not only Lach Quen Port, but also Lach Thoi Port in Son Hai commune is currently being silted up due to alluvium; during the rainy and stormy season, the channel is narrowed and shallowed, making it difficult for boats to enter and exit. Sharing the difficulties with fishermen, in 2018 the district continued to mobilize all resources from the budget, flood and storm prevention fund and the potential of private enterprises to handle weak points on the sea dike and seaport of the district.
